Oil coming from rearview mirror pod

I have a 2017 SCAB with around 23k miles on it. I noticed that I have a few tiny streams of a thick clear oil slowly running down the windshield from the pod behind the rearview mirror.

Any ideas?

All else aside, here is what the issue is. It is the rain sensor gel pack in the mirror that melted and the gel is oozing down the windshield. This is the same design that BMW uses and they have also had this issue occasionally.

Ya, inside. Excess grease would make sense but I've had my truck since Jan 2017 and it only presented within the last year or so.

That makes sense since the rain sensing wipers don’t work for crap. I figured they just didn’t work well and turned them off.

Ok thanks for the help. Scheduled a service visit for January. They must be booked up replacing all those cam-phasers.

Never had any forward collision error. Rain sensor for wipers always seems to work properly too.

Just saw this. My rain sensing wipers are awful. Never the right speed. Had to turn them off.

I have this dripping down the windshield also. I just ignore it, doesn’t seem to be getting any worse.

Yeah, there’s the problem right there. It’s never a good idea to use inspiration from brand b. Their engineers are entirely too impressed with their own abilities.

German engineers have always been this way.

For those with grease oozing down the windshield, I'm wondering if your trucks are parked inside or outside and whether your habits are to park them facing the sun. Solar heating might be at the root of this.

Had the same issue on my 18, and on my denali. Both ford and gm techs don’t know what its from. They just clean it and put the cover back on.

Mine are strictly parked outside in the sun. Only happened a couple times, cleaned and hasnt come back.. yet. Haven’t noticed anything not working properly.
