Change it, I don’t think you find advice in this thread to not change it. I had a Bullitt and beat up 67 Mustang that saw less than 1000 miles a year and were changed annually. Simple and cheap protection.

I changed mine the first time at 2000 miles, not because the oil life meter said to, but because I wanted the break-in engine oil out and full synthetic in.

Does Ford use special "break-in oil"?

What synthetic oil is recommended, and what filter ?

No. And factory recommended oil isn’t even 100% synthetic. So pick your favorite. Use the appropriate weight.

So if 5000 miles is a good interval to change your oil using full synthetic, anyone know what a recommended engine hour interval would be? If I went by miles instead of hours on my side by side, I'd be quite a bit over the recommended hours. On the other hand, mostly highway driving would rack up a bunch of miles in a short amount of time. I would think hours would be more accurate for engine oil, imho.

If your really seriously interested, read the owners manual for a beginning on oil maxim changes so at minimum, you don't void your warranty. What ever oil you are going to use, contact their technical support, ask them about maximum storage in the unopened container, once you open the container and in the vehicle. Never exceed what Ford recommends.

For example Mobile 1 time requirements are 5 years unopened in the container, one year in the container after opening or one year in the vehicle. I amuse none of those times are additive. Oils of the past lasted seemingly for ever. Today's oil's advanced additives have a life expectant. If you exceed those time limits, your engine's life is certinally being short changed. Short trips are very corrosive, longer trips give contaminates longer to warm up and a better chance of being removed. Additives are there to help neutralize the bad effects, maintain the viscosity, prevent corrosion and a lot more. Some who have who had experienced cam phaser failures talk about not exceeding 5,000 miles oil changes on vehicles that have a 10,000 mile max. Remember after a short start up & shut down including short trips, pollutants generate in the start up are left in the oil to just sit there, doing their damage, till the next times longer drive. Just because the water shows warm, the oil takes a lot longer to come up to temp.
