In case an angry polar bear shows up on your doorstep, you will know why ... :cactus:

The Raptors are causing the polar ice caps to melt. I knew it. But it's only the 6.2L not the 5.4L. :turtle:

"The expected introduction of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles could cut U.S. gasoline use but could increase deadly air pollution in some areas, two reports say.
That's because a plug-in's lower tailpipe emissions may be offset by smokestack emissions from the utility generating plants supplying electricity to recharge the big batteries that allow plug-ins to run up to 40 miles without kicking on their gasoline engines. Plug-ins, called PHEVs, are partly powered, in effect, by the fuel used to generate the electricity.

About 49% of U.S. electricity is generated using coal, so in some regions a plug-in running on its batteries is nearly the equivalent of a coal-burning vehicle. The trade-off is one that even plug-in backers acknowledge. It could undercut the appeal of vehicles that appear capable of using no gasoline in town and hitting 50 to 100 mpg overall fuel economy.

If large numbers of plug-in hybrids were being recharged with power from the least-sophisticated coal plants, "There is a possibility for significant increases of soot and mercury," says a report by environmental advocacy group Natural Resources Defense Council. Soot particles can make it hard to breathe, especially for asthmatics. Mercury is toxic."

"The push for conversion to plug-in electric cars will do nothing to stop carbon emissions, a report by the GAO warns, throwing cold water on a push by Democrats to get more plug-ins on the road. In fact, the problem could be made worse as demand goes up at coal-fired electrical plants. Plus, the need for batteries may just have the US changing the dictators to which we’re chained."

These idiot greenies think that electricity just comes out of thin air. Well, it doesnt (as mentioned in previous posts) it comes from power plants & yes, they produce emmissions.
Here is something else to think about. What happens when everyone has an electric car and the power companies have to replace large sections of the existing grid to meet the need? The cost of electricity is going to to go up, and that my green friends is going to eliminate the supposed low cost of having a plug in car, not to mention the cost to replace the batteries.
And let an angry (or otherwise) polar bear show up on my doorstep. I can solve his problem and get my wife a nice throw rug with little effort.

^^No need to shoot them, when the seals are gone they will be too.

Polar bears are on the Smithsonian Channel right now. Irony.

That's why I just picked up a little 2011 Fiesta for a daily driver... fun to drive, more powerful than I expected, and gets 40 mpg... I've been averaging 39+ mpg so far and I'm not babying it... That's hybrid-like mileage on regular unleaded.

I was impressed at how solid this little Fiesta feels on the road for a small car... feels much bigger than it is.

IMHO, Ford hit another home run with the new Fiesta.

You should go test drive a CR-Z. It's actually a lot of fun to drive and has some good pep to it.

Fiesta is just as fun in my opinion... actually gets better mileage than a hybrid CR-Z... very comparable in acceleration... a lot cheaper... and no expensive hybrid batteries to worry about down the road.

I really love the Fiesta's six speed dual-clutch "auto trans" which in reality is a computer controlled manual trans. Plus I have SYNC and a ton of cool features the Honda doesn't offer..

Not a replacement to the Raptor but a good choice for running errands and getting to work.

I like the Fiesta but I keep hearing rumors of Fiesta ST or RS with a pumped up 1.something or 2.0 Eco-boost so I'm kinda in a holding pattern. Did you get a 4 or 5 door and did you add the FRPP handling pack? The CR-Z is not a normal hybrid and Honda does not hide that fact. When I was at the dealership the salesman said you want great MPGs get an Insight but you want really good MPGs thats fun to drive then get a CR-Z. I asked about the batteries and he said they are "maintenance" free and will last beyond the life of the car but this info is coming from a salesman. However being 25 single and don't really need anything practical so for the same price as a CR-Z or Fiesta I can get a very nice C5 Z51 6 speed and still get about the same MPGs. lololol
