Pretty obvious but it doesn't bother me. Puts a smile on my face every time I pass a Prius and it sounds like I'm going 100mph

I'm with Wilson on this for several reasons. First, the cats probably provide a certain amount of back pressure, but with an exhaust system that foreshortened you might burn valves. Second, you might gas yourself in the cab. This is bad. Third, everybody within a half-mile radius is going to know when you start your truck. If you have to run out to the all-night pharmacy at 1AM for a fresh box of condoms, a thousand people will know it. And finally, simply removing parts and calling it a mod is like throwing paint on the sidewalk and calling it art.

First, if you're burning valves, your problems go beyond missing the back section of your exhaust, second, the f-150 cabs are very well sealed, it's not like the 90s where you could sit with the engine running and exhaust would leak into your vehicle even if you had perfect factory exhaust, third, it's not as loud as you think, about the same as headers with a muffler, I know cause my truck and gbrown1867's sound almost the same, I didn't need the extra power of headers and had never heard anyone 100% happy with their cat back systems, so I tried going the cheapest route first so I wouldn't waste money buying an exhaust system and figuring out a month later I didn't like it, I just happened to end up being 100% happy with the way I did it, removing my exhaust was a lot more work than blacking out the reflectors on the mirrors or putting an aftermarket antenna on yet people call those mods too, removing parts you feel are not needed on a vehicle is more so modification than adding parts that do next to nothing

Well said Joey. I was just like you. I wanted a beefy sound. In my old 96 Silverado there was a 2ft retaining wall around my work parking lot. Well I backed in to it and kept reversing it. My exhaust buckled and snapped before the muffler. IT WAS THE BEST ACCIDENT EVER!!! I wasn't even made because my truck sounded amazing and I never fixed it.

I didn't wanna dump $400-$1000 on an exhaust system that I wasn't sure I was gonna like. So I said to myself "self! Let's go step by step and see".

First step was to unbolt at the resonator.

Step two would've been new tips.

Step three would've been home made turndown.

Step 4 is lighting style exhaust.

Step 5 was a new cat back system.

Just so happens that step 1 meets my needs PERFECTLY. it was free, it's reversible, and it's bad ass!!!

For all those worried about torque and power.....not affected at all!!! I've been to Gorman 3 times and Ocotillo once with it and have never had an issue with power or throttle response. I don't have a tune or a CAI. Stock engine and exhaust components.

I agree that a setup like Cleave's is not going to burn any valves. I've heard many people say that running open headers or a very short exhaust will burn up your valves, but I've never seen it personally. I understand the theory behind it, but I think it's somewhat of an old wives tale. The theory stems from the fact that a much more open exhaust will have less back pressure and allow atmospheric air to make it's way to the exhaust ports on the cylinder head. Atmospheric air is made up of approximately 21% oxygen... exhaust gasses are approximately 1% oxygen. The thought is that the reduced back pressure will allow this additional atmospheric oxygen to reach the combustion area near the exhaust ports and act as an accelerant in the combustion process and burn up the valves... especially the exhaust valves.

I've had and known many people to run exhausts like Cleaves even with no catalytic converters for many years and many miles with no problems.

If this were true, I think a lot more old school planes with the individual stubby exhaust tips would have fallen out of the sky because of burnt/stuck valves.

I will agree with Wilson a little, 98% of vehicles sound horrible with no catbacks, the raptor just happens to be part of the 2% that sound amazing with no catbacks, below 3000 rpm it's old school american muscle car (not lopy carbureted dragsters, but the grumble of the factory muscle cars with just a touch of lope at idle), above 3000 it's half volume high strung trophy truck
