so I see all these supercharger and turbo posts has anyone tried nitrous. maybe like 75-100 shot for that little extra boost when needed I know hiding a bottle would be challenging at best. but could be fun if this motor can handle a little kick. probably not the best for off roading but when a little extra is needed to blow by someone on the street.

I think the issue in the 6.2 is the PM (Powdered Metal) rods. Powdered metal is a forging process that takes metal particles and mashes them all together. Kind of like fiber board used in cheap furniture. The problem with this stuff is it’s hard and brittle. Most rods will take a bit of stretching or flexing with no real harm. Hard metal though is brittle and can’t take stretching or flexing because it will snap. PM rods are OK for mild engines, but at high RPMs and under high stresses, they tend to snap

gotcha yea I figured if you were boosting it anyway why not go nitrous but I guess it is an instant hit instead of gradual hit. but an instant 100 foot lbs of torque would be a blast until something snapped.

A small shot every once in awhile would probably be fine as long as the tuning was good. The ford PM rods have come a long way in the last several years. Back in the 4.6 2v day they were junk and would shit out after 400hp. But today its about the only type of rod they use anymore including in the diesel, eco boost, and GT500.

I believe the eco boost platform is what prompted the push in technology ford put into the later pm rods.

For sure. I wasnt happy to see the GT500 get PM rods when the 03/04 Terminators got a real forged H beam. Seemed like a step backwards. But as more and more time goes on the more I'm impressed by Fords budget minded PM rods. Still no true forged kinda strength but getting better.

it would be awesome if a factory would build a fully forged motor that would support 900 hp but then the aftermarket would suffer and the cost would be redicoulus. but I guess I'll just leave this one alone for awhile and just do little mods like the perch mod and exhaust and possibly cold air intake with a tune.
