If you can wait for the 2017, I would wait, unless you are planning to modify the rig. The nice/bad thing about the 2017 is it is turbo charged from the factory, so you can't reasonably super charge it and it would be silly to do a motor swap (you all know who I am talking about). I decided to go for the 2014 because I want a lot more horse power than stock. It will be hard to do on a 2017.

I assume you know how a turbocharger works? It's the best platform to start with for power gains.

No but you can do intake, exhaust, bigger interooler, and a pro tune and BAM massive power gains.

Yup, but you still only have 3.5L of displacement and a lot more stress on a V6.

Ya, and I would hope you understand how displacement works. You can actually but a turbo charger on a 6.2L as well, there is someone here that has a monster twin turbo 6.2L, I would put it up against a 3.5L any day. With the same tech, displacement will get you more horse power, period. That is just how it works, I am not knocking the 3.5L and I may end up with one in 2017.

Thanks for all the replies! yeah testing both would be ideal but based on the dwindling nature of the used ones and the possible rush on the new ones plus my lease tie frame, that may not be in the cards. Good to see their is faith in the used ones still, I was worried that most used would have and old owner who tried to jump their previous car with it. I do really like the tech in the 2017 for sure hopefully Ford doesn't choose to up the base price to 60K out of the gate! heh. Thanks again for all the information!

They aren't dwindling. And when the 2017'***** the lots there will probably be a influx of garage queen Gen 1's for sale as people want the latest and greatest. Just wait till both trucks are out and see which one you like more. Plus, if the new model drives down the prices of the Gen 1 and you end up going with the Gen 1, then you probably save a couple thousand dollars by waiting.

What are you using the truck for? Do you keep cars for a long time or will you want to get out of it next year? Are you willing to wait up to 6 months from the time you order to get your truck?

Well I intend to have it for awhile, but I have done both, had cars for ages and also short turn around. I intend to use it for truck stuff! Heh. Nah, some hauling , helping the old man around his ranch, offroading, camping ect and DD. On the wait thing, I have already been in contact with dealers and they are suggesting ordering like 2 months out, does it normally take six? I have never ordered before so I'm not totally sure what to expect. are you likely to pay more ordering?

One dealer told me that the SCAB should be out round August with the SCREW to follow in December. So maybe if I'm lucky I could drive an Gen 1 and Gen 2 in August and then order for December if that's the path. Same dealer while super informative also told me that they sell most 6k above MSRP... sooo prolly be lookin for a different dealer.

Typically orders take about 2 months but when the Gen 1's were first released with the 6.2 some people waited that long.

I think if it's an extra truck to do truck stuff you might want to do the used one. You can find a cherry one with low miles for $15,000 less than the new ones. The dealers all will be charging over sticker and you can find one that will go sticker or under but you have to do some searching, especially when they first come out. You could buy a used one, drive it for a year and get a new one. Boom!
