just bought a used 2011 raptor. the only option it didnt have was dvd,nav was courious if it would be better to go with aftermarket unit or ford factory. the only thing that worries me about the aftermarket unit is compatability with steering wheel controls. i had a 2008 x-runner that i put a dvd system in and couldn't use the wheel controls anymore.
any advice?

better to go aftermarket. if the truck doesnt have the oem gps antenna or the proper wiring when it was built, then you will spend more than you want trying to get the oem system installed. an aftermarket unit will be a cheaper and better option. as for steering wheel controls, you can use a swirc. it is a module that can retain the buttons. however the button configuration might be a little different and some buttons might not be programmable. they have been out for many years so im wondering why they werent mentioned when you had the radio in your other vehicle.

I thank you all for responding. I've had a pioneer and a power acoustic DVD system in separate vehicles. The pioneer was more reliable but the power acoustic had more options and features. It's been 5 years or so seance I've been in the stereo market. Just wondering which brand had the best up to date features?

pioneer has the best user interface, alpine has the best sound quality and the best finish (if you use the 928 with the perfect fit kit.) they both use navteq maps. in a side by side comparison you would be able to tell the tonal differences, but individually, they both are much better than oem. kenwood has some good interfacing with sync and uses garmin maps so updates are free, but its user interface is awful

these are just my opinions since i have dealt with these for a very long time.

forgot..... pioneer has the best iphone/android compatable units. it has whats called app mode which allows you to use many different apps from your phone onto the radio.
