With all the tech and other ways to listen to music I got a laugh out of a antenna reception debate! I did replace my antenna awhile back with a cab height version. But haven’t tried any radio stations with it. I was just tired of scraping it on the garage door.

I actually want to get a taller one so I can use it for a height check. When i was driving around in Oregon there was a low bridge (Like 6’8”) with ZERO signage or warning and I smacked my rooftop tent on it. Put a couple cracks in the fiberglass.

I use all the tech too but some of us venture into places with weak cellular signal from time to time and don’t care to subscribe XM. I’ve got wired CarPlay available, and even a wireless adaptor plugged in, along with multiple streaming subscriptions to use. I don’t have much everyday need for an antenna myself but if I’m going to change it out to something short to try and avoid getting it ripped off at the car wash, or dinging on my garage door - I’d like to do so with the minimal effect on function.

Which cab height model did you end up using? I’m in the market for something in that general size myself. Hence the post

While I don't like it banging into everything, it's been helpful in parking garages that have been only an inch or two higher than my truck. That was probably the scariest thing I've done in my Raptor and I once took it on a dirt mountain road that was really only big enough for one way traffic. Then it started raining and I passed someone where the edge had washed out.

My amateur and beginning understanding of radios is that any shorter antenna is going to impact reception to some degree. There’s no way around that. I’m trying to build out a high frequency radio system for my truck and not coming up with great luck for exactly what I want without a base station type radio.

Now, is it measurable by any real world standard is the question. Won’t know until it’s tried. It will certainly get better reception than a stubby antena. You can just see if it will screw onto the truck as it is. I can’t imagine it would be a different connection.

A lot of people dont understand this. All these aftermarket antennas are stubby looking things, I've even seen the 50 cal bullet mod. These are definitely marketed towards city slickers but I need one longer than my buggy whip

Stubby antenna here, I only listen to Sirius/Xm radio. I bought a Lifetime deal back in 2004-5 for $495. Its been a great investment I have transferred it into 7 vehicles since! :chewie:

Bronco roofline is shorter than f150. Equals shorter mast.
These antennas are feeler gauges as well.
