Anyone else had these kind of major problems with thier raptor?

Mines a 2012 and in one year of ownership Ive replaced the rear locker at 3K miles, had a power steering line blow which is apparently normal up here in Alaska due to the cold temps but my Nissan doesnt gets parked in the garage and it hasnt had a single problem, and most recently, I was cruising at 65 on the highway and lost power. I was still driving but it was vibrating real bad under power and the engine light came on. I drove it immediately to the dealer and dropped it off.

They tell me so far it looks like it had a meltdown in one of the left cylinders, possibly number 2. And they think theyre going to have to call Ford for authorization to order a new long block. They havnt figured out exactly what caused it yet.

I mean, I came over to Ford because I was brought up a GM guy by my Dad but my last two GM products were a real dissapointment and I expected alot more from Ford. Im getting fed up with the apparent unreliability of this truck.

Right now Im faced with a military change of station at the end of May and I can only trust the dealer to have this thing completed in time for me to drive it from Alaska to Kentucky. And then I have to drive it with a brand new motor all the way there and hope they connected everything correctly and it doesnt start overheating or blow an injector or something leaving my and my wife and two kids stranded in God knows where.

Has anyone else had this many issues or am I an anomoly?

Holy shit! When you were telling me about this on Sunday, I'd have never guessed it was going to be that bad. Though I have no rational reason for this, I blame Alaska. Have I ever mentioned how much I hate this state?

I've ne'er heard of anyone needing a new block! That's insane an for the dealership to say it's due to the cold is BS! These newer raptors seem to be getting worse and worse each year! They try to change to many things! I have a 2010 I bought back in June of 2010 and have never had a major problem and really haven't had a minor problem I couldn't fix myself in my garage! Hope they get it fixed real soon for ya!

WWJD? (What Would Jesus Drive?)

Answer: A perfect Raptor.

But that doesn't exist so you're stuck with an anomaly.

Hang in there and focus on how great the truck will be once you get it back.

This is wild!

A lot of us has been Raptor owners since the beginning and haven't heard of anything close to what you are experiencing. So I'm going with a freak anomaly. I would be very interested in what caused this issue.

Well it turns out that the dealership was a little overzealous with thier first analysis.

After they pulled the motor and the head they found that one of the valve springs had broken in half.

It didnt cause any damage to the block or piston however the valve itself was a little tweaked.

Theyre going to replace the pretty much everything to do with that valve but since there is no damage to piston or block they are not going to go with an engine replacement.

I guess its better news than I originally got but I still cant see this as a good prediction of reliability when coupled with the other issues.

I checked into the lemon law and I dont quite qualify. It either has to have been seen 3 times or more for the same problem within the first year of ownership OR have spent over 30 BUSINESS days in the shop during the first year.

Im at 21 BUSINESS days right now and my 1 year of ownership is April 28. 2 days from now.

Well glad it wasn't the block but still ****** that the spring broke! I wonder if it was messed up from the instal at the factory or if it was just a bad spring that got past QC! Hopefully this is the only time we hear about this! Hope you get your truck back soon!

Jordan, this definitely sucks, but I think its just unlucky. Try not to blame Ford. Realize even multi-hundred thousand dollar race engines throw a valve spring on occasion.
