You nailed it...
it’s my first truck
From the uneventful startup sound,
isn’t worth the gas it costs...
It’s going to have to move on to a more appreciative owner this fall.

Completely agree, appears you might be more suited to a low end Tesla. Good luck

You nailed it... it’s my first truck and I fooled myself into thinking it could satisfy my performance needs. I thought the much touted 5.2s 0-60 would be similar to mild performance cars that run in the mid 4s range... but I was wrong. It’s just not “fast” in any way (on the street, where I spend 99.9% of my time). It’s the same as a regular full size truck.

I look at it and think it’s bad ass, but the daily driving is killing me. From the uneventful startup sound, to me just light footing it everywhere cuz the acceleration feel isn’t worth the gas it costs... to the lack of refinement in the drivetrain, the tech, and the interior quality.

It’s going to have to move on to a more appreciative owner this fall.

I spend 99% of my time on-road too, but bought the Raptor knowing that, because the 1% I do go off road, I want the most capable truck money can buy off the factory floor.

Honestly....to me it sounds like a lot of people bought raptors that either don’t actually like trucks, have never owned a truck, have never owned a modded truck, & just bought it cuz it looks cool & is hyped & pricey etc. when maybe you were really looking for an SRT8 Jeep or M/AMG suv....

I’ve owned 4 GM 1/2 tons, most recently being a 2015 loaded up Sierra 6.2 All Terrain w/ bilsteins/2.5” lift 33”s exhaust, etc. all the brands have their issues- trust me. GM also makes the best V8 (when they don’t include the AFM shit of u remove it on your own) - but to compare a regular EB F150 or a 6.2 GMC or hemp ram to a raptor & debate if its “faster” is really dumb (well we probably wouldn’t be including a Ram in the convo if we’re being honest) - BELIEVE me, take ANY other 1/2 ton throw heavy huge ass 35” ATs @ 100 lbs a corner, 4.10s, a 3” lift, widebody kit, a few hundred lbs, & made it as aerodynamic as a brick while boosting its power (any way you’d like) to match the Raptors 450hp/510tq @ the crank & #1 they’ll get shit ass mileage, #2 you’ll have no warranty, #3 you’ll be out the price of all the mods + diminish the resale value simultaneously.

The fact that the raptor performs as it does off-road & on the street as well as being quiet/comfy & composed as it is, w/ all the creature comforts, exclusive/unique styling cues, very trick high end suspension all together w/ a warranty, huge aftermarket support, & great resale/value retention is what makes it special.

The 3.5 in the raptor ain’t the same as a regular F150 either- shares the forged crank/revised piston heads/intake manifold/different compression ratio w/ Ford GT (along w/ other stuff I didn’t list or am not aware of) + has larger turbos than a standard 3.5EB (but smaller than the GTs)

Lastly, that being said, should you want to void that warranty & get a serious bump in power w/ tune & larger FMIC, I’m CERTAIN the Raptor 3.5EB would handle the extra twist more easily & reliably than a standard tuned F150 as well.

Not to mention that the frames already braced/stiffened further over a standard F150, & many other components are beefed up over a regular 1/2 ton as well adding to the Raptors exclusivity & ability to handle more power. Correct me if I’m wrong- but aren’t the a-arms, axles, hubs, diffs, ball joints, bushings, & possibly even driveshaft unique to the Raptor?

So yeah, shit....really making a bit of a case here aren’t I?

So if you bought a raptor to be the fastest kid on the block you probably bought the wrong thing, but that’s ok you can make it fast as hell if ya want & it’ll be fine most likely.

Makes about as much sense as the guys who lift HD diesels & throw 24” chromies w/ mudders on em amiright?

To the OP, a drop in HP can be easily checked. Take it to have it dyno-ed (typically under $100 go get a horsepower measurement) or download an app that will estimate HP based on vehicle weight and acceleration. We can compare numbers to see if there really is something wrong.

Also, if your rear tire aren’t getting good traction, then traction control will kick in and limit power.

Well stated. This is me. I’m not a truck guy but I’m drawn to the raptor for the practicality of a truck, the capability to fit friends/family/dogs in the 2nd row and the fun of some performance/capability off pavement. For me, it was either Rubicon JL or Raptor but since the Raptor is so much better for that 98% on pavement, it appears to be the winner. I don’t plan to get rid of my sports car though... nor my Ninja ZX14R.

Yes... many of your opinions are correct.

The Raptor’s reputation and tuff looks, and exclusivity have attracted many would be AMG, BMW M, Porsche, Audi RS, Trackhawk, and even GT350/500 shoppers.
People who have an attraction to high end vehicles and the means to acquire them.

The issue appears to be that the Raptor falls short of their expectations in a few areas. Satisfying this segment of buyers is something Ford should consider with the next gen Raptor.

Engine - should be a turbo or SC V8. A vehicle that heavy needs tons of torque to satisfy seat of the pants feel... should be at least 650ft lbs. (not to mention sound is important to performance buyers).

Interior - when RAM has your interior beat by a significant margin, you know you are not goin to come close to satisfying the German cross shoppers. Yea it has some of the same tech, but it is very crudely implemented and bare bones to check the box... kinda like a Tracfone vs an iPhone, yea they both can make calls and send texts, but there is a significant difference in the experience.

Then is really gets to smaller items... paint, panel alignment, rust, rattles, stereo quality, tiny infotainment, camera resolution, etc.

I disagree, based on happy vs unhappy owners, it seems the segment of buyers you're asking Ford to cater to is quite small. A Raptor is a Raptor, not a Lightening. Perhaps for should reintroduce the lightening for this segment. Also, with Ford investing half a billion dollars in Rivian and an additional 11 billion over the next decade in electrification, it's quite likely that next gen Raptor will meet your torque request, but don't expect it to sound any closer to a V8 than the current one does.

With all the known facts combined with the rumors currently in circuclation, your best bet is that C/D is right and Ford will option the last year of the current gen Raptor with a GT500 engine. I would not at all be surprised if there's another 2 year hiatus between Gen2 and Gen3 with it coming back as electric only.

I know this sounds crazy, but once you start adding a lot of those things into a Raptor it get hard to build a 72k truck and still turn the profit you need to justify the lineup (beyond just a halo vehicle). Building a SC V8 would be tough unless Ford would share it with another product line (GT500 is the perfect example). Interior is always going to follow the base F-150 (ie Lariat/ King Ranch trims) as this makes it trucks more affordable to produce. You really we are comparing a four year old designed interior (2015) to the 2019 Ram interior (which is awesome BTW). I fully expect the next F150 (Raptors included) to meet or exceed Ram's interior, but once again kudos to Ram for really raising the bar on interior trims.

At the end of the day Ford is going to build the Raptors to maximize profits (as they should do). This means really using as much standard F150 parts as they can (excluding the performance things that make a Raptor so much more than say a Rebel). I just don't see Ford trying to get into the same space as the Germans where it comes to fit and finish, they just truly have no need to play there.

I do think that they will look at the V8 options (especially once the GT500 is around), as they can offer it a an upgrade option and basically make Super Raptors. I would expect that to end up being something along the lines of a 10k option though.

I don't see electric only, but I do see some hybrid option (like Ram's E-torque) when the wheels get that instant boost from an electric drive train at start up. I think everything else you saif sounds very accurate.

While you may scoff at the idea that the manufacturers detune the engine through the computer for a break in period, it is true. Most manufacturers will not admit it, but remember they have to pay warranty claims, and once an engine breaks in, it can handle the stress of high horsepower better. I have found out that Polaris does that with the new RZRs as well. I experienced it, and even the dealer experienced it. They took two brand new Turbo S machines down to Baja to race with some other machines. The first two days they had trouble keeping up with the pack. The third day they were leading. My new machine was kind of a dog the first couple of days, and then around the third one I punched it and wow, what a difference.

On a side note, my friend who knows an engineer on the Raptor team, confirmed that the computer will not allow full fuel delivery during break in.
