The saga continues. I finally got a loaner this morning. I turned the Flex in and got an Ecosport, apparently Ford's answer to the Smartcar. At least it's wheels. Driving it is tiring as the steering linkage seems to be made from rubber bands and it wanders. It takes constant attention to keep it between the lines on the freeway. It's nearly new, with 3400 miles on it. Anyway, I won't have it for long. The SA, Mark, called me in a bit of a panic around lunchtime and wanted me to bring it back on Monday to trade for another loaner. I can guess what happened. He got the invoice from Enterprise for the Flex and saw that I had put 500 miles on it during the week I had it. Then he thought about the 5500 mile clock on my two-month old Raptor and did a little math. Apparently if the loaner goes over 4000 miles, bad things happen, money-wise. Hence the panic. He made me promise to keep it under 4000. Easy peasy, we stay home weekends and go out and about on weekdays. So we'll see what they give me on Monday. Supposedly they're pulling a new car off the lot. If it's an F-150 the volume of my whining will decrease. Fingers crossed.
I quizzed the SA about my part, because the guy from Ford Customer Service had volunteered to help expedite it. He threw the guy under the bus. So I called Ford.
Turns out that Mark has been avoiding the customer service rep and deleting his emails. Today he got Mark on the line, sent the email, and told him he'd wait for positive confirmation. Mark put him on hold for five minutes hoping he'd go away. He didn't. He then told Mark that if Mark didn't respond by this afternoon that he'd go over Mark's head to the GM. What's really messed up is that Mark is their star SA. I was wandering around snooping while Mark photocopied my DL and insurance card, and he's been SA of the year pretty much every year. Anyway, the man from Ford promised to call me next Friday to let me know about my part. I sure hope it shows up before then. I'm really missing my Raptor. Two weeks on Monday. On the bright side, Ford extended my warranty to 75,000 miles/8 years as a gesture of goodwill. I appreciate that. It's classy. Now I'm hoping I get my truck back before that warranty expires ... I'll keep you all posted as the story unfolds.
