GEN 2 My prediction on the 5.2

There are all kind of articles (rumors) saying that there will be a v8 option in the raptor sometime in 2020/2021...dealers nationwide are literally giving away the trucks right now and it’s late 2019... I don’t think that’s a coincidence. I mean my dealer is offering 2k under MSRP online with zero negotiating. I think Ford realizes that once the V8 drops No one will be buying the V6 and that the value will plummet.

Hence the nationwide give away. It’s completely different from when I bought my Gen 1, people were fighting to get the truck at MSRP.

When I looked at my 2014 that I ordered in Late 2013 dealerships had them marked 5 to 10,000 over MSRP and people were paying it.

I think the 5.2 will be an option like in 2010. That's how it went with the 5.4 and 6.2...started that the 5.4 was the base..and the 6.2 was a more expensive option...that only lasted one year. Then the 6.2 was standard...my guess...no one bought the 5.4 and ford realized they would loose money.

If history repeats its self...the 5.2 will be a more expensive option for a year maybe two while ford tests the water...no one and or very few people will buy the 3.5 and ford will ditch it like the 5.4

If they try to make the 5.2 a 80-90k maybe even 100k fully loaded with markup the truck won't sell. Then they'll have to do away with it..doing that will remind people how awesome a v8 would be in the raptor.

People will be left feeling like they are settling for a v6 that they really don't want. I feel that way now and the v8 isn't even official yet.

Why do I say all of this? I’m considering buying a 2019 and or ordering a 2020. My gut tells me to wait Incase the 5.2 becomes official.

With all the talk about Ford having to keep up with the new Rebel TRX with the HellCat engine coming in 2020 the 5.2 will become a reality. So do I buy a 19 at a steal or wait and pay full price for the 5.2.

What are your thoughts.

No I am not a V8 troll, just a guy who sold his 2014 raptor for a 2017 S6 and miss having a truck and considering another Raptor.

Your thoughts on what happened with the 5.4 for 1 year and then the 6.2 show that you have no idea what you are talking about. You can google it if you want to actually know what happened.

No new engine for at least 3 years (if at all). But wait if that is important to you.

Unless the V8 will be supercharged or turbocharged, it will likely be slower and weaker than the current HO V6. This isn’t like going from a smaller V8 to a bigger V8.

The Raptor tow capacity would also need to be substantially increased to justify a much bigger engine.

I get that throwing a bigger engine was the appeal of the past, but the 6.4 is slower and weaker than the current 3.5. I can’t see Ford going back to a naturally aspirated engine for the Raptor.

Though the 5.4 was only offered in 09-10 and then in 11 the 5.4 went bye bye? I’ll google it later.

Aside from that discrepancy what are your thoughts on my prediction. And why do you think no new engine for at least three years? Think they will finish out the gen2 with out the v8 and introduce it for the gen3?

The 5.2 is supercharged, same engine that’s coming in the new Shelby GT500

Legit. I just went down to the local Stealership and picked up my free gen2 for my wife and another just as a spare. I was going to claim them all, but there was a homeless guy outside, so I let him have the last Raptor on the lot ( gave him the 801a )

I’m going to have to use the speed limited my-key for my wife’s free Raptor, she’s got a bit of heavy foot when priussies are around.

You guys better run to the stealerships and pick up your free Raptors. Hurry, before they’re gone.

My thoughts are (if) they put a V8 back in the Raptor it will come with a premium. With Raptor MSRP's now hitting $76K, I'm not sure how much more buyers are willing to pay?

I've owned a 13 MY and now have a 18 MY and at current 19 MY prices I'm out of the game.

Sure Ford would probably gain some incremental buyers with a V8 and at the same time lose some that would normally trade up, due to the price increase.

I don't know Ford's sales targets/goals, however I would speculate that for every + $5K there is a negative impact on their sales. We've seen already that they are hitting a threshold as some dealers that have never offered a discount are doing so. Also inventory is higher than ever.

Not sure what they would gain by offering a V8? Most likely it would compare to the amount of GT 350's they sell. My dealer is a huge Ford dealer and they only sell about 2-3 GT 350's a month.

Even if they only increase the price 2-3K, you're getting to the $80K plus territory.

It will be interesting to follow what they do, but for now we can only speculate.
