I'll never understand that. Ever.

me either, every other person has some kind of 4wd but somehow the loons around here find themselves **** deep in a ditch.

We really did get some snow this time though, I measured an honest 8 inches - had to break through two layers of freezing rain. Its brought down many trees and I'm on generator power for the second evening. Temps are warming tomorrow so it'll be slush and flooding next.

Even 8" doesn't seem like it should cause any problems. I think if you lose power due to a bit if freezing rain, and a tiny touch of snow, you need to upgrade the equipment (you being the city, not you as an individual)
Up here we get all that on a regular basis, we seem to do fine.

Now I know some of you aren't used to getting snow like that, but why not be prepared anyways?

Just my opinion anyways.

It's very expensive to update the infrastructure of a city and maintain the equipment needed to deal with a 100 year event. It's completely impractical. I'm sure if they wanted to raise taxes to be prepared for such an event, the citizens would howl in protest.

Well don't build it so ****** in the first place?

An not even just that, it's things like businesses shutting down cause there's an inch of snow, what's up with that? To scared to drive to work? I heard of a place that closed early because it started snowing. Power never went out there either.

Seems so silly. But I'm gonna stop posting in this thread now before it gets outta hand.

Ya know, I moved from Denver, to Seattle, back to Denver. I laughed at their reaction to snow, until I experienced snow up there. If you have never been to Seattle, you need to understand that downtown is hilly like San Francisco. You seriously can't walk up the sidewalks, let alone drive up the streets. Nothing short of a snowmobile, it's just THAT steep. Add to that the fact that they have like four snowplows, and you start to understand the disaster. Yes, they kind of are sissies in some ways about snow, but there is a ton of validity to it too. The city and area simply isn't prepared for it, and it's so rare that the cost isn't worth it.

And yes, I have been clowning on my friends up there anyway, given the fact that I haven't seen my lawn due to the foot of snow that's been on it for the last month.

They are going to have some NASTY flooding problems too once that all starts melting.

Not to be callis or sound racist, here in the DFW area, I think all the local members will agree, the worst thing here about snow and more so ICE is the asians, middle easterners and the non resident hispanics, all combine for about 30% of drivers here, CAN'T DRIVE on the shit! Many have a hard time on dry sunny days here. Throw them a curve ball of ice and snow and its GRID LOCK!

One vietnamess guy I worked with years ago had his wife, also viet crash 3 of the 4 family cars in a 2 hour period once! GAWD! AHhahaaaaaa. It can be bad with all the BIG highway interchanges like the High 5 and just the fact that people are stupid. SIGH!

I am o.k. now. HAhahaaaaaaaaaaa.
