Modifying transmission dip stick

Gave up waiting on the B&M version. JPCRacing.Com allegedly has at least one available as of today (06/13/2022). I'll update if they come through. If not, I'm going to write corporate a harshly worded letter and see if it helps

Glad this popped up.
Only been under my 2011 Gen 1 a little and was wondering if it had a dipstick at all.
Thought it may have been like my last Explorer with only a "access plug" on the bottom of the pan needing fluid to be pumped up into it from underneath. That was a pain. Burning my hands doesn't sound the coolest either, but being able to pour from above is a step in the right direction I guess.

@rschap1, there is a two step process for refilling your transmission after dropping the pan. Before doing that service you need to familiarize yourself with the procedure. If you don't you are liable to underfill or overfill your transmission and also dump your expensive brand new synthetic transmission fluid on the garage floor.

Not planning on changing fluid as of right now. Only got as far as trying to locate dipstick. Will do my homework if/when the time comes.

Fordtechmakuloco on you tube has very in-depth/awesome videos on the process. But the short of it is, the engine must be on and in park while checking and filling fluid.

Okay, so installation has to be done while the engine is running and the transmission is at least warm. If not, you will spill transmission fluid all over your garage floor. And because the engine will be running, the exhaust will be hot. Fingerless gloves with at least 4 layers of duct tape across the knuckles, or it'll be weeks before your skin heals from the burns.

Pretty sure if the fluid is cold and you haven’t started it in a while, like over night it won’t run out either. Once fluid get warm it need to be running though.

Also you need some high heat gloves. Hand bounced off the cat a few times and no issues.

So I drained 6.5l, and dripped about another pint. The capacity of the pan filled 1" above the seal is way less than came out. I'll see if I can get a accurate fluid amount to there when I pour in the new $11/qt Mercon. After that, I'll install this thing when the motor is ready to start, because it sure ain't right now.
