Hey everyone,

I’m having an issue with my Raptor (2021 model). I’m noticing a metal screeching or stretching sound when steering the wheel at medium to low speeds (15-25 kmh) during tighter turns.

Here’s some context:

• This same issue happened a few months ago after I went offroading on a particularly bumpy road. At that time, I took it to the dealer, and they claimed it was a “software issue”. They updated something, and the noise went away. However, with a tiny click instead when steering which was weird but I didn't pay attention to.

• Recently, I went offroading again, and now the sound is back. It feels almost identical to the last time.

I’ve read a bit online, and I suspect it could be something related to the IWE system, suspension components, or maybe something with the steering itself. But I’m not sure how a software update fixed it before, which makes me wonder if something else is going on.

Has anyone dealt with a similar issue? Any ideas on what it could be or what I should ask the dealer to check? I’m planning to take it back, but I’d like to have a better understanding this time before I go in.

Thanks in advance!

Is that on a full lock to the left only? Almost sounds like the tire is hitting something. Leave it at full lock to the left while in park then check that area. Maybe have someone drive the truck while you check the area?

humm, With the truck off try jerking the steering wheel left/right, will it make the noise?. Maybe a loose lower steering shaft bolt (The shaft that connects to the rack then up to the shaft coming out of the firewall). If it's not 100% tight it will move at the connections.

It doesnt make any noises when jerking the steering wheel when the car is off, its only when im at a certain low speed, its exaggerated even more in off road conditions i figured out

I don’t disagree with the steering shaft bolt theory, but it almost sounds like a CV joint, but it’s not as ‘rhythmic’. It definitely sounds mechanical, not electronic.
