Question for you: Is there any benefit to coating these turn downs with the black header coating? Thanks

Yes? And no.

For performance? Are you going for looks or longevity? Do you have the aluminized steel or stainless steel turn down?

Starting with performance- if you're referring to the effect of a ceramic header coating for the purpose of keeping under hood temps down and exhaust gasses hot, then no. I highly doubt coating the cat-back will have the same effects and benefits as what the intended use of a ceramic header coating or "wrap" would have on headers.

Looks- Sure. But in this case some VHT high heat paint, when used in proper applications, can help to protect vital exhaust components. Just make sure to apply and cure it as recommended by the manufacturer.

Longevity? If you have the aluminized turn down and live in a moist area or somewhere in the salt belt then I'd recommend doing something. The VHT is a good idea here too. The muffler and pipes will begin to rust from the inside anyway, so coating the outside may be in vain; but it can't hurt to maintain the outside of your system.

If you have the stainless version - it will not be as susceptible to rust inside and out. The MBRP turn down in particular is T409 stainless steel which is high quality but unlike T304 it will develop some orange discoloration or "surface rust". It's nothing to be alarmed at, the stainless will not rust through but again if the appearance is important then an application of an additional coating could be done. I'd just leave it alone, personally.

I hope I have answered your questions.

Thanks for the info. I have the aluminized version and I'm in a somewhat moist area about 2 miles from the Pacific Ocean. I was primarily thinking of doing it to protect against oxidation. I think I'm going with vht high temp paint unless there are better manufacturers out there?

That should work for you just fine. What you need is a high heat coating and VHT is very well known for their high heat coatings. Confirm any and all available manufacturer recommendations and follow the instructions.

You're probably going to want to remove the exhaust for the painting process and then reinstall for the heat/cool curing process. It's not a bulletproof remedy but it should net you more longevity. Keep in mind this is a little outside the norm, but I'm with you.

Thanks a lot for the info. The exhaust is brand new in the box, I don't even get the raptor for a few more weeks. So it will be easy to coat. Thanks again !

Looks good iron man, I just picked up some sandpaper, thinner, and the vht primer and paint. Getting ready to coat them now. did yku coat the hardware too?

I'm wondering why mrbp didn't weld on the hangers? Seems like it would be stringer than the bolt on kind.

MBRP doesn't weld the hangers on because the kit will fit the super cab and super crew which have different hanger locations. Keep in mind you will need to trim the intermediate pipe 12" if you have a super cab.

Ohhhh, makes sense. And yes I have the supercab on the way. Looks like I need to trim it before painting. Glad I asked, and thanks again!
