Just checked mine at almost 10k miles and it's gotta be close to 1.5 to 2 quarts low [emoji49]. The level was perfect after I swapped it st 5k.

Damn, that’s what I’m afraid of. This is a design flaw every Gen 2 owner needs to be looking out for.

Regardless of the vehicle, not checking your oil in 5k miles is pretty careless and abusive.

That’s a flaw in the owner, not a ensign flaw. Pure abuse if you’re not checking fluids frequently - and every 5k is not frequent.

Is there no low oil warning light? I realize that its an off-road vehicle but I'm sure there is a way to have a time delay for when its actually low. And of course, it could be a selectable driver option if desired.

Interesting point of view. I’ve never owned a vehicle that ate 3.5 quarts of oil in 2,000 miles....and if the manufacturer recommends changing your oil every 5k, it shouldn’t be eating oil. It’s a design flaw and the dealer already acknowledged it.

can you scan in what they wrote on your service writeup so we can follow up on the design flaw?

It would be wild if they start recommending llucas to thicken the oil up. Maybe need 5w40 like the Dodge ecodiesel

Porsche and BMW are notorious for eating oil. My wife 911 even came with a factory Leather pouch for the extra quart of oil to store under the hood.

I never had a vehicle or a motorcycle that i changed the oil on in a lesser frequency than 5k miles, thats absurd, new tech oils are great, over 10k miles in some and comes out super clean

No problem. I don’t have a service write up yet, just a text message from the dealer’s service rep. The truck’s still there waiting for parts and they’re going to check for engine damage this week. Once it’s done and I get the paperwork, I’ll post it.

Turbo engines always consume more oil. For one a small amount seeps out of the turbo turbine shafts. For another the combustion pressures are very high forcing more blowbye past the rings while under boost and lastly these engines have oil squierters that spray oil on the bottom side of the pistons to help cool them causing oil vapor. I check my oil every 3k miles. My truck was 1 liter low at 3k and that is perfectly normal even on a na motor. So if you want to wait until 5-10k miles thats your choice but i wouldnt recommend it.
