No doubt that this '17 is a cool truck... But you poke fun at some points that I do believe are true.. I have 4500 miles on mine and am actually regretting taking the truck... I guess you'd call it buyers remorse...
I have had a lot of trucks.. Mostly HD pickups.. though none were capable of very high speed offload like the Raptor is...
The Raptor is like a Range Rover to me..... Very pretty, too much tech that'll be problems in the near future, and reduced work capability...
I didn't order my Raptor, someone else did. Yes it has many things I would have skipped... Most of the "tech" in this truck actually irritate me... This driver alert thing that screams and throws red lights at you almost made me crash... I prefer how my '14 F350 is equipped.... really this is a truck not a minivan..
It's ability to handle bumps at speed is seriously impressive.. I ran a rough road today that has big speed bumps in it...at 45 mph... unheard of in my F350...
But. I don't think this Raptor can even handle a sunday Home Depot run with me... The aluminum body is a complete joke in my opinion... and a 1,000lb payload? On a full size truck... really? I can't put 10 bags of Concrete, some tools and a few bricks in the back? Wait. The blocks will dent the bed to death. Why have a power tailgate if you can't put anything other than some stuffed animals in the bed...?
the fuel economy is pretty impressive. Squirrels don't eat much I guess..
the V6 and 10 speed is "Fast" .. It sure is.
It's amazing that you can really feel the difference when it has 5 people in it... Where did the power go?
The 10 speed is so busy it's like listening to a 12 year old girl talk on the phone...
I'd have much higher opinion of this little truck if it had a 6 speed...
Paddle shifters are worthless on this thing.. I gave them a fair shot... the toggle on the shifter is much more effective.
I think some tires with more sidewall strength and less sidewall height will be a huge benefit to this little truck... these 17s squirm all over the place.. My F350 will turn inside this Raptor on the pavement.
I haven't pulled my boat with the Raptor yet... I am seriously doubting its ability to handle the weight. Should I have to measure the tongue weight on a 22' boat to see if my full size truck can handle it?
Please don't tell me to try that trailer backup knob.. I have two "knobs" between my legs and can back up a trailer like a man... We should all feel insulted that that knob is on the dash of this full size truck.. You know you are thinking the same thing...you know you are.
Yep, and I don't think there is anyone that can get past the sound of this Raptor... Remember how everyone used to laugh at the 16 year old kid with the Honda Civic with the fart can exhaust... No so funny now is it?
Having said all that... Anyone got a low milage '16 4wd F250 Diesel you want to trade for this Raptor?
Why doesn't this truck have that self parallel parking feature you see on cars? (Yes that was a joke)
I hope the truth doesn't hurt too badly boys...
Yes, I too spent $70k on the Raptor.. I wish I hadn't.
After driving a Gen2 for a month I noticed the following;
1) it's too fast, much faster than my 2011 Gen1. It is so fast it's sometimes shocking. Also twin turbos are not necessary.
2) it's too damn light and nimble. I find the responsive steering almost sports car like, and my old truck drove like an Oldsmobile on the road.
3) the technology is just too new. Cooled seats, trailer backup system, garage door opener, adaptive cruise control, sync3 with loud audio, lane warning system, 6 aux switches... I mean who needs 6 switches? 4 is enough for me.
4) too damn comfortable. The seats are incredible, cooled and heated, they're just too relaxing. I also find the flat floor in the back confusing, I'd rather have a random subwoofer under the seat. Power tailgate? Lighted box? Who needs it.
5) gas mileage is too good... It's confusing, I am used to filling up much more often so I end up going to the gas station just to hang out. I'd rather go there to fill up.
6) too many looks. I mean who am I Justin Beiber? The truck attracts too much attention it's just too nice looking. I prefer the old school spaceship style with the cheap plastic grill that goes up with the hood. You know?
7) tires too big, shocks too thick. I was happy with smaller tires, I don't need 35s, and I certain don't need the extra awesome shocks.
8) frame won't bend.. just not enough flex in the frame. I'd rather have a frame that "bends" when you hit a big bump, at least the engine won't absorb the shock am I right fellas? The frame in the 2017 is far too strong.
So yeah. The truck is simply too awesome. I'd be willing to straight trade for a newer Gen1.
Just kidding.
