New guy here looking to trade my 16 F150 FX4 for 2017 raptor.

So the truck I found was 2017 34k miles and the only issue I noticed.

(1) when I drive from stop to around 20-30 mph a little vibration on the steering wheel. Anything above 30mph and highway it's fine. I think it's more of a wheel alignment issue.

(2) normal street driving when I stepped on the gas hard and let off right away I hear a small chatter or rattle sound. Very very minor and does not happen every time. Wastegate rattle?

Any input would be greatly appreciated it.

Or...... have an inspection and if all is good, have those items fixed by dealer, have them include extended warranty.

Make sure you are buying from Ford dealer that will be servicing the needed pre purchase repairs.

If you can’t be comfortable, then it’s time to walk. Don’t forget now is the best time to negotiate price.

Pass on that one bro.

Why???

Just sounds like tires need balanced. The KO2's go out of balance quickly.

The rest sounds normal.

Just get it inspected at a Ford dealer or get extended warranty.

If the price is right and inspection good, I say get it.

Well... he didn’t mention the price or options, BUT...

- balance usually comes into play at higher speeds, a vibration felt at low speed is likely something else.

- engine noise and rattle should be a deal breaker for anyone.

- it’s a 17’... several common issues already exist.

- inspection? The inspection is already done... a vibration and an engine rattle have been identified.

- warranty?
First, he didn’t mention that it was at a Ford dealer.

Second, Ford is not in the business of giving away warranties, they sell them... either directly, or built into the sale price.

Third, buying used is already a risk, plus he has identified some concerns (probably why it was traded in). Even with a warranty, who wants to deal with a problem vehicle... Ford doesn’t provide loaners while yours is in the shop.

I must say I do agree with you. So its a BMW dealer someone did trade it in probably for some boring BMW. I am pretty sure I can get the truck for $52k it has 34k miles and all the options except the beadlock wheels and carbon package. Also they are giving me $24K for my 2016 FX4 55k miles on it.

It still has a factory warranty but like you said even with a warranty who wants to deal with the problems.

My other concern is looking at other 2017- 2018 raptors from ford dealers. But again impossible for anyone to know whats going to happen 1000 miles down the road.

Do you guys think im better off getting it from a FORD dealer. I always look at the carfax if i see the truck was bought from the auction i stay away right away.

It’s convenient to trade in and buy at a dealership... but it is costly. You can assume a minimum of $3k-5k for that convenience (the low offer on trade in and the full retail price of the sale... plus fees).

That aside, I wouldn’t be swayed by the type of dealership the used car is at. They all do the very least possible... quick inspection (think state inspection level), maybe but often not a quick wash and vacuum, and it’s on the lot for sale. More time is spent setting the price.

I would not buy a 17’ unless it was in the $40s and had a 100k mile transferable warranty.
