It’s just a CAI like others have said, I told 5 star I have a SBT CAI and they said it didn’t matter for the tune but when data logging is done they may notice some differences in some stuff vs stock , I can’t remember what but it made no difference truly. Where are you located ?

I’d see what those shocks look like, when they were last rebuilt/replaced. That’s a negotiating tool. It’s not a well they look fine, it’s part of the maintenance for the truck. Every 10k-50k miles , so 2 times it should’ve been done.

Fuse 27 relocation done is a must

Recall from ford on transmission reflash for downshift from 6th gear to 1st,I think lead frame recall also but not positive on 2012.

Spark plugs replaced at 100k? That’s gotta be done and isn’t cheap 16 of them bad boys , boots and plugs may need replacing if any issues.

Service history matters, see if you can get that also.

Rust on rockers if it has a moonroof and make sure to read up on servicing that if it does have a moonroof.

Get it up on a lift check for leaks….start it up from cold. See if exhaust manifold is leaking. Studs break on these suckers, just had passenger side done.
Thanks for the help, unfortunately after a 3 hour drive I didn't end up getting it. The body and interior were in great shape but that's about where it ends. The dealer of course told me it was in excellent condition and ready to go. On the test drive it was shifting pretty hard, when I put into 4HI the service 4x4 light came on and when it was in 4LO it was binding up or something as you couldn't go over 5mph in it and it would lurch forward uncontrollable with grinding noise. I probably could have fixed those issues but the real kicker was the amount of rust on the frame and it wasn't just surface rust it. It had full on cancerous rust all over it so I walked on it.

just to add info, that intake does need a tune bc the maf “housing”is larger that stock. the oem maf is calibrated for a specific diameter. intake tubes that can get away without a tune neck down at the maf so their calibration isn’t far off.

This is the headache part of a search for a nice GEN one Raptor. It may look good in pictures but once you get close, you notice all the bad things. Rust is not a killer for the truck but if you can find a nicer one in better shape with less issues then go that route.

I looked at over 800 Raptors and dealt with 3 that fell through before finally finding mine. This was all during covid.

Here's one that I have personally seen. Several of us have, at a Cars and Coffee meetup a few weeks ago.

It is in near mint condition, VERY well kept. If I had the $ I would buy it for my wife. It's close to Nashville, TN.

We met the current owner. She is selling because her husband died. It was his truck.

The issue I had with the rust was it was not just surface rust it was pretty bad cancerous rust and if it was that bad on the outside I can't image what it was like on the inside of the frame. If it was just surface rust I would have been fine.

@MaximusTX

Thanks, little more than I wanted to spend. Just looking for a fun truck to drive while I was rebuilding my Gladiator. I am going to probably hold off for now. I have tried to buy 3 and all have fallen through for one reason or another. Probably just going to focus on finishing my Gladiator and save some money and try again later when I have a bigger budget. Thanks everyone for your help and maybe I will back later.

My 2014 Gen1 is for sale , maybe higher mileage than you want but ask @The Car Stereo Company what he thinks , he just drove it to get a trailer. Let me know if you want more information, im in Alabama.

If he drove it, it’s probably not worth buying. :laughing1:
