I had taken the wife's Explorer in for some warranty work last week. While waiting on my ride to come get me I start talking to a couple of salesman that were sitting outside. I asked them what the trade in was on a 2013 Raptor with 18k miles, just out of my own curiosity. One of them said 30-35k, asked me if it was 4x4, I said the Raptor he said yes, I told him yea it's a Raptor. So he gets on his phone and checks this and that and told me that they would give me 35k for it. The owner really likes them so he would go that high. I told him that's odd because on KBB it says trade in is 50-52K.

He said there is now way, they don't bring that much at auction and that's how they determine the trade in amount. I told them they had lost their minds. He said you want to trade, I said sure for another 18k I'd be happy to, turn and walked off. I don't know if this guy is clueless or what.

Thats crazy, how the hell did he get a job there not knowing much about vehicles and or what they go for or what the trade in values are. It's amazing how clueless these idiots are, yet sad at the same time.

I know they are, I knew what my truck was worth before I even asked. What got me was the fact that he asked if it was a 4x4.

Most if not all salesman never give trade in values. It typically is a person who has a clue or the manager of the used car lot. I wouldn't give much worth to KBB. Try to find what it is on MMR, that will be a lot closer to what any dealer will give for trade-in. There is exceptions because they might have some customers looking so they know it will be a quick flip.

Having to ask if a raptor was 4x4 would make me laugh too. But I know several that have removed 4x4, those serious desert runners.

dealers always buy as low as they can and sell as high as they can.

What is so hard to understand about that, the least amount of money they have in your Raptor the more they make. I hate car dealers because now, they try and make 10-20 grand on big rigs vs. 3-5 grand for what it use to be.

Not really they all use the black books which are wholesale prices. Just like the GT500s and Boss 302s. They are worth about half of what they were new.

Just the way it is in Ford hard to build equity in them.

As far as I know MMR is as close to wholesale as you can get.
