Jesus! A few of you pay more in yearly tax for your Raptor than I do for my house in the middle of an urban area. I think we paid like $1,300 last year in property taxes.
In Florida it’s around $85/year on 12/31 to register a Raptor ($45 or so for normal vehicles). There’s no personal property tax that I’m aware of, except on business property—and there’s a threshold on that that I’ve always been under thanks to depreciation. There’s no emissions testing—thankfully they stopped right before I started driving—and no state income tax. Our insurance rates are a little higher because of fraud and weather, but we’re not Michigan by any stretch.
One thing that sucked is that registration renewals that normally carry over don’t seem to carry over for class. So when I updated the registration on my 350Z for two years and then sold it for the Raptor, I kept my tag, but the registration date changed 6 months and I had to pay fresh for this year. That had pissed me off, along with them upping the costs slightly a few years ago, but after reading this thread I feel quite alright with my $90 mistake.
Normally I’m up with tax laws, even in other states, but a garage tax is new to me. I can’t stand excessive taxes, especially upkeep on property. If I ever leave here I’ll be sure to avoid any state with that BS. I had been considering moving, but this makes me feel better. My family has lived in this city for 5 generations now, but the slow churn of the blue into the only city I can really call home in this state is getting to me. That and I almost get in weekly accidents from no one paying attention anymore and just generally driving like ********. Also, humidity blows.
