Nice mod and write up, but I got to ask. How do go from being a big bad "Bear Hunter" user id to "2manytrucks"? You could never have too many Raptors.

Bearhunter is a forum member from a site that I used to frequent. He did the original mod and put together the how to for the SD folks.

I only have (1) Raptor for now... in the driveway right now I have 01 Sport Trac (modded), 05 F350 Harley (losts of mods), 03 F150 FX4 (modded) and 12 Raptor (stock)...sold the 02 Harley F150 to get the Raptor.... so 2manytrucks.

Tapping that dome light wire works great and saves on having to add switches...just use the key fob button and on go the lights.

Just installed 2 small led lights in the bed and tapped into the dome light wiring which goes on for a minute or two when the doors open. I didn't take a picture but the wire can be found in the collection of wires under the passanger side door step. If I remember correctly it was a thin purple wire; this was on a 2012 Suber Crew Raptor.

Great question. My answer is I don't think so. But then again... I didn't even know about the cargo light switch.

I'm trying to do this mod and take power off of the trailer plug. I'd like it to be powered all the time. I'm going to install two switches. An on/off switch (kill witch) and a plunger switch that will turn the lights on when I open the tailgate.

Also, determined that I need fuse 22 and relay 9 installed in the truck to have constant power at the trailer hitch. Does anyone know where these are to be installed?

I see some mention the use of a relay with the LED lights. What is the relay used for? The kit i bought didn't come with one. http://www.bluewaterled.com/catalogdetails.php?id=39

the relay has a lot of uses for this application though it is for using a low current trigger to turn on high current devices. since LED are not consdered high current you probably wont need them, uness you plan on using multiple lights

if the plunger switch doesnt fit, you can always use a magnetic reed switch, in which case you would nee a relay

Hmmm. I like the sound of the magnetic read switch. I was going to add the plunger switch in later once I got the lights working. I was looking at a flat mount plunger, but couldn't really find one that I like and was waterproof.

in doing many remote start alarms over the years i have found that the plunger style switches fail over time. because there is plastic in the actual plunger they age a lot quicker than the reed switches. the reed switches are usually sealed so no outside weather can get to them, and since the only other force acting upon them is magnetic force, there is less to go wrong. i prefer these over the plunger switch.
so blue i would suggest the reed switch if you can use one
