I took mine around the Alpine loop last summer. Actually I was on my 650R, someone else was driving the raptor. No problems though. Even up Nellie Creek Trail, which is a little tighter. I am planning something in June, Engineer (Up the hard way), Corkscrew Gulch, California Pass, Silverton, etc... I'll keep everyone posted.

Here is a pic of us last year at American Basin.

If you plan a trip and don't mind me joining along let me know because I'm always down for some wheelin in the mountains.

Any other updates / trip reports for the Alpine Loop?

I never made the alpine loop trip in 2010 like I wanted. I just ran out of time. I did run Imogene and Ophir pass. No real problems on either of them, although there were a couple tight spots/turns coming off of Imogene into Telluride that might give a Crew cab Rap some trouble. I still wanna hit up the alpine loop to definitely run engineer.
So if you or anyone is planning a trip in the San Juans for summer 2011 let me know because I would love to cruise along.

We are planning on going in late June or early July. The loop is a cluster on the weekends. Very slow jeeps everywhere. Our plan is to start in Lake City. Day 1 American Basin/climb Handies peak, Cinnamon, California and Corkscrew gulch(the last two could get tricky), and then stay the night in Ouray. Day 2 Engineer back to Animas forks (This one has me worried, its a tight trail) over to Silverton, hit some of the side trails. Day 3 camp at the Redcloud and Sunshine peak trailhead. Day 4 Climb both 14ers then head back to the cabin. Right now we have my Raptor, a Fully caged ranger 4x4 prerunner, and a Jeep TJ. We will camp 1 or 2 nights. I'll let everyone know when I have confirmed dates.
