oh man, you need to get rid of rat or racoon or whatever those are. A friend of mine, her x5 got similar issue like you something ate some cover and some air fitler box. And bamm her ECU harness or whatever those harness was next. She couldn't start the car and tow it to the shop... it's a whooping of almost $4k to replace all of those wires, diagnostic etc..

Wow, what are the odds of finding someone with same engine cover option. Luckily I spotted my issue shortly after I purchased my truck and dealer order a new cover for me, but kept this one as a character. At the dealer I did notice rat nest on that cover but never look in detail to notice....

Same happened to my 17.... Took cover off and it will stay off..... Living in the country I keep a lot of poison around the truck and a mouse trap under my hood.... So far so good...

Man we had bought a brand new Jag one time, nicest car we ever purchased at the time. Drove home and the next morning it wouldn't start. Popped the hood and a squirrel had dropped a walnut down inside the front inner fender and while trying to get it out clawed through PCM wiring harness! He didn't even take his nut with him

Has anyone seen this before? Looks like a rat chewed on the foam of my 2019 engine cover!!! Vehicle has less than 4k miles. I live in the middle of a pretty urban city but I guess anything is possible.

Any other ideas on what it might be?

Yep,you got yourself a problem for sure...Little F*#&@er's destroyed my BMW...I've managed to keep them out of my Corvette by putting Moth Balls in it during winter months...and in both Summer and Winter I use a "spray" fabric softner.....and spray it on the floor mats,even in the vents (smells good)...
I'd also suggest getting a box of the Rat Poison Blocks....they have holes running thru them,so you can wire a few in Engine Compartment...They have to chew thru the block to get it loose so they can bring back to the nest and poison the whole family....I've had luck doing this on my porch...blocks are gone in a few days...and so are the Pests...Put 4 out 3 days ago,only 1 is left....

You need to set out some traps or some rat poison. Wherever you are parking has a rodent and will do more damage in time
