ummm....I’d pit many “mass produced” vehicles against the likes of mclaren/Lamborghini/Aston/Range Rover etc. when it comes to quality/reliability/durability/longevity all day every day & 4x on Sunday

I think what you mean to say is- at the end of the day it’s a piece of machinery & there’s no such thing as “perfect”- not at any price.

Lol what about Honda and Toyota??? They are bulletproof. Let’s face it, American trucks do most things great, lots of power, heavy duty drive trains, roomy and comfortable, etc. they however are not near as reliable as Toyota’s, but Toyota’s are so damn ugly and not near as cool or capable.

toyota? If Ram/Ford/GM only made drastic changes/redesign every 2 friggin decades then I’m pretty sure they’d be able to work out any and all kinks since they’d be dealing w/ the same basic b***h design dating back to ‘06!!!!!!! All of it! Chassis/frame/engine/tranny/brakes/interior!!!!!

a Ram TRX gets about the same mileage as a 381hp Tundra TRD pro bahahahhahahhahahha

I had an ‘07 Silverado LTZ - I can only imagine if GM had just stuck to thy design & just continue to address any major bugs it’d be “bullet proof” too. It’d also suck just as bad as a Tundra in terms of performance/features/value.

Toyota is pathetic. They simply CANT produce an engine that makes the hp/tq the 3.5 HO puts out reliably, lost their engineering prowess. If they could do it....they would, instead, even when it came down to finally debuting a redesign of what was/is arguably their finest performance achievement- the Supra. They so severely lack the design/engineering capability & INNOVATION these days they went knocking on BMWs door to do it for em....cuz they’re not capable & too scared to design it themselves only to have engine/tranny/“reliability” issues that would tarnish their “stellar image”

I had 2 Rangers one that went 197k before trading & another that went 298k before if finally blew the stock clutch.

my dad had a 2002 GMC Sierra 5.3 that went 302k miles before tranny went

I have a C5 Z06 that absorbs 720whp through it’s STILL stock tranny/diff/axles w/o complaint.

You know that you're both right, don't you? An antiquated design built with modern materials and methods will always be more reliable than a computer network on wheels pumping out better than 2hp/ci. If Toyota can sell boatloads of trucks at a high price without having to redesign it every three years they're printing money. And if you're printing money, you're afraid to kill the golden goose by messing with it. They're kind of in a pickle now. They have to do something, but if they eff it up, they lose their halo. It should be interesting to watch.

yes that’s a very succinct synopsis of their situation. That being said...truth be told I think the next real competitor in the offroad truck space will be from Toyota not GM, they’ve had PLENTY of time to work on if that’s for sure....but Toyota has always been a legit contender when it comes to offroad capability....the drivetrains may be anemic & thirsty, but their efforts are mostly in the right place.

I could see the next gen Tundra being a really nice truck, it’ll probably take cues from all the big 3’s last generation trucks & cherry pick the best. It’ll most likely still be “dated” from day 1 of the debut though lol

Oh, man, does that bring back memories! I had a '98 Taco TRD with the 3.4 v-6 and the gen-II supercharger on that. Even running 33's (stock was 31, still had those in this pic) that li'l truck could FLY. I never found the courage to see what the actual top end was. Loved hearing the s/c whine as I wound all the way up to redline. Put bigger injectors and a URD piggyback in it just for good measure. Never got a chance to dyno it though. Sold it with 185K on it and it still ran as smooth and quiet as the day I drove it off the lot, and didn't burn a drop of oil. Much as I love the Raptor, that li'l Tacoma will always hold a special place in my heart. Loaded up nearly to the max GCWR and drove from Chi-town out to Seattle, never missed a beat.

55k on my 2018. Nearly every start there is a "light" rattle for 1-2 sec till oil pressure builds. This is apparently what two dealers call "normal". Despite the fact that I have had a new Expedition rental and it had no "normal" rattle. Occasionally, I'll get a full on 1980's diesel rattle so loud that its embarrassing for a couple seconds. It is very intermittent, and likely unreproducible at the dealer.

I have an appt with Bozard Ford in St. Augustine FL in a week based on other members here with good experience. Even if they don't "hear" it I'll likely keep beyond the powertrain warranty. There's no performance issue. Probably this is not a long term vehicle for me.

Are Cam phasers still a known issue on the 2020’s? I know they’ve been addressed to an extent, but wasn’t sure if they are considered non issue at this point.

Thought I’d update you guys. Since we hear so many bad experiences I thought I’d give you a good one!

Took my truck in a couple weeks ago. Dropped it on a Mon night at Bozard Ford, St. Augustine FL. In and out with a loaner in less than 30 min! Got a text the next day saying they confirmed cam phasers and they would order parts. It would be a 2 day fix once parts arrived. Text on Thur, parts arrived repair would done the following Mon. The only glitch was on that following Mon I texted in the am that I could be there 6pm. They said ok open till 7pm. I arrived at 6pm and awkwardly found out the SA forgot to let me know there was an issue and repair would not be done till the next day. It is 1.5 hr one way trip for me :-(. SA said they’d deliver the truck to me the next day. OK, I’m cool w/ that. Sure enough truck delivered next day as promised and loaner swapped.

Tailgate latch also fixed based on existing recall/TSB.

No rattle on start and from outside appearances everything looks fine. Thanks @TrailWhale for checking in on me. This forum led me to Bozard after two local dealers said they don’t hear anything or all is normal, blah blah blah.
