I can’t get one of my local dealers to fix the cam phaser issue. Because it is only at startup and doesn’t continue. They had the balls to say that was normal. So I love with it for now and will find another dealer soon.

If it’s normal, maybe you and the service manager can walk out to the new car lot and see it demonstrated on a new Raptor???

Thought I’d update you guys. Since we hear so many bad experiences I thought I’d give you a good one!

Took my truck in a couple weeks ago. Dropped it on a Mon night at Bozard Ford, St. Augustine FL. In and out with a loaner in less than 30 min! Got a text the next day saying they confirmed cam phasers and they would order parts. It would be a 2 day fix once parts arrived. Text on Thur, parts arrived repair would done the following Mon. The only glitch was on that following Mon I texted in the am that I could be there 6pm. They said ok open till 7pm. I arrived at 6pm and awkwardly found out the SA forgot to let me know there was an issue and repair would not be done till the next day. It is 1.5 hr one way trip for me :-(. SA said they’d deliver the truck to me the next day. OK, I’m cool w/ that. Sure enough truck delivered next day as promised and loaner swapped.

Tailgate latch also fixed based on existing recall/TSB.

No rattle on start and from outside appearances everything looks fine. Thanks @TrailWhale for checking in on me. This forum led me to Bozard after two local dealers said they don’t hear anything or all is normal, blah blah blah.

Glad you got taken care of! If there’s anything else you ever need, don’t hesitate to reach out.
And shameless plug, we do plenty of accessories installs too, which is my department (accessories and upfits) so anyone that needs lighting, bumpers, racks, etc we are happy to help.

Lol what about Honda and Toyota??? They are bulletproof. Let’s face it, American trucks do most things great, lots of power, heavy duty drive trains, roomy and comfortable, etc. they however are not near as reliable as Toyota’s, but Toyota’s are so damn ugly and not near as cool or capable.

Bulletproof? As a service technician, that is a comical statement. The Ridgeline is a FWD minivan-based joke that overheats with mild off road use. Toyota can't keep a frame under their cheaply built "trucks", which includes Taco, 4Runner, and Tundra. As far as Tundra, would you like me to elaborate on the AIP failures, cam tower oil leaks, rusted out differential housings, steering gear failures, sticking brake caliper pistons, bed to body contact issues, and 3UR-FE (5.7) valve drop issues? That's just the most common ones, there are plenty more to discuss. It's amazing how these companies can so easily con the average consumer into buying into their BS. I would have loved for someone to walk into my service bay as I have the heads off of a Toyota and exclaim "what are you doing? It's supposed to be bulletproof!"

Here's the frame rust lawsuit info. The newer models have the same issues, nothing changed.

If it's the issue described in the TSB, the bulletin literally states that the issue will occur on cold start for 2-5 seconds. Apparently they can't even comprehend a basic service bulletin, definitely find a new dealer!

I agree, but it's ridiculous that it would even come to that. The entire point of a TSB is that there is a known issue, so as a consumer you can bring it in and have the service performed without question as long as your concern aligns with the service message. It's discouraging that there are dealers out there that can't even follow such a simple process.

Absolutely. Both times I had them done at two different dealers, both treated it like a minor thing and it was no big deal. Couple days in the shop and it was done. Only reason I had a second repair is first repair was with old revision of the part.
I am shocked the repair guys don’t actually want the work.

im currently looking at a 2gen that has a carfax report that stated the camshaft had been repaired or replaced at 53k miles. and currently sits at 70k miles... truck has all the options i want and a great price but very worried after reading all of these cam phaser issues... not sure how much an extended warranty will add to the total cost of the truck but if anyone has some insight or advice i would greatly appreciate it

Yours has probably been fixed then so no biggie

I had an 18 that got totaled w/ 35k on it & the cam phasers were just starting to rattle, I wasn’t in any rush to fix it, thing will drive fine
