I’ve read countless posts/threads on here and the F150 forum about the infamous cam phaser issue but I didn’t really see much posts about what would happen if you don’t get it fixed.

I understand most owners are concerned about the clunking sound that happens during cold starts but other than that, any other issues that could arise if you don’t get it fixed? I know some owners have opted out of getting their engines torn apart for the cam phasers since they’re not seeing any loss in performance. I’ve also seen others state that your truck will go into limp mode.

Has anyone actually put on a decent amount of miles without getting the cam phasers replaced? Any issues?

This issue seems very similar to when I had my Hellcat. Hellcats are/were known for the supercharger bearing going “bad” creating a whining noise at idle but never determined if it was actually harming the car or if people were just not happy with the noise and made a big deal about it.

Great question, thanks for starting this thread.
I am looking forward to others feedback. My Q1-built 2019 scab just started the dreaded cam phaser rattle three weeks ago. It's an annoying noise for sure, but I'll gladly ignore it if it won't cause any issues long-term.

I’ll tell ya- mine sometimes give me lil rattle on cold start....but the ford techs I’ve dealt with thus far have been...scary...to say the least. I have a 100k extended warranty, not going to do anything unless it really bothers me or sounds like damage is done or it effects driveability

Even if it doesn't cause any harm to the engine, who the hell wants to pay 75k or 100k (canada) for a rattling tin can?
I don’t want someone tearing apart the engine on my 75k truck and potentially creating more problems either when they replace the cam phasers and the noise might come back again anyways.

Well i had mine done because check engine light came on. It could have been very bad if I kept driving as it had cracked in two the tension guide and broke the cam gear somehow. Came gear had a missing tooth and a clean crack all the way through. Now it seems fine but I have a tick that does not go away. Tech said it was probably bad gas and that he reset learn mode and it went away. I think hes lying and just doesn't want to fix/maybe new head ect. I find a lot of these techs seem lazy, but may be wrong just my 2 cents.

My rattle started at 3k miles, bought new with 10 miles. I got them replaced at 18k. 2 weeks later, I just dropped it off for having cam phaser cel and rough idle. No rattle upon start up tho this time.

im in exact same situation. Truck runs perfect. Just a 1-2 second rattle on cold starts. I’m not touching it. It’s done it for 3 years.
