My ford dealer even told me he has heard the rumors but nothing confirmed yet, and then there is this article.

Update: Twin-Turbo V8 in the new Raptor: The F-150 Raptor will also receive the upcoming EcoBoost 5.0 V8 in 2018 | HorsepowerKings.com

Not to doubt you, but how are you so sure we wont see the v8?

---------- Post added at 10:34 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:27 AM ----------

A different review site also said,

"2018 Ford Raptor Specs

Of course, the most important upgrade coming with the 2018 Ford Raptor is its twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V8. Exact output numbers have yet to be revealed but we expect this unit to deliver more horsepower than ever. Besides the latest addition to the engine lineup, the Raptor will retain its familiar 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 as the base unit. The engine generates 450 horsepower mated with the ten-speed automatic transmission, which should also be offered with the new twin-turbo V8. Other significant upgrades expected from the 2018 Raptor include Ford’s latest Terrain Management System and the new Torque-on-Demand transfer case. Thanks to these enhancements, the upcoming version of the famous Raptor will take things to a whole new level when it comes to the performance of a pickup truck."

I know sites try to get views by maybe stretching the truth, but it seems there are several rumors out there by different sites. Just wondering why it could not happen. Actually seems logical to me that they use the TTV8.

First, if you believe "a rumor" from a car salesman, then you may want to check out this bridge I have for sale.

Second, that article has been circulation for a while now. It's nothing more than click bait.
The photo in the article clearly says on the sign behind the engine:
Twin Turbo 5.0L Cobra Jet Engine Concept

I haven't seen any other rumors that aren't just a regurgitation of this. Every photo of the supposed engine is from this display that states that the engine is a Cobra Jet Concept and you can clearly see the Cobra Jet Mustang in the background as well.

As to why it won't happen. Cost. The engine shown is not a street legal engine. To develop a new engine for street applications would be costly. The only application is the Raptor and Shelby Mustang. Both are niche vehicles that are already at the top of the price range for their market. A TTV8 Raptor would easily be $90-100k. There aren't enough people willing to pay that to make it worth it for Ford. Let's not forget the fact that the Ecoboost is Ford's bread and butter. Nothing sells more regular Ecoboost F150s than the fact that the Raptor has a Ecoboost.

Now while I have no concrete evidence that it won't happen, I do have simple business logic.

You wait for a TTV8 Raptor if you like. I will be diving my TTV6 Gen2 while you wait for the Unicorn truck. I hear that the TTV8 version will also come with a date with Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman in the back seat as the Navigation, and a Get out of Jail free card.

no need to be a smart a$$ about it.

I was just wondering if you were an insider with knowledge, or just someone who is hoping the value of their 1 yr old truck doesn't drop an additional 20%.

whelp been in contact with 6 of the 10 in state dealers and they are all nuts so far.
10K over down to $7500 over
$7990 over
$5000 over
$5000 over
$3500 over
$3000 over

Really getting tired of the excuses too.
Mostly saying these are limited production and market dictates the mark up.
Coming from a 99 Lightning and a 03 10th anniversary cobra i never paid over MSRP.
Hopefully i can locate a normal dealer soon unless someone can help out.

New here.

Called my local dealership and they wanted 15-20k over MSRP. So those prices don't sound that bad compared to what my local dealer wants to charge... lol.

I just ordered a 2017 through a small Ford Dealer just south of Dallas and ordered it to my specs and at MSRP. So Dell, it's sad that I live 5 miles from Ford Frisco and I had to go 100 miles to buy a raptor. I know MSRP isn't a great deal and I understand supply & demand but 10K above MSRP?

So you just ordered. Any idea when it may arrive? Before May?

I don't necessarily agree with your logic. Ford builds niche vehicles :

"Ford has approved 500 lucky people to purchase a GT this year; the rest of us can only dream. Prices likely will begin around $400,000. The GT has some of the most stunningly exotic bodywork in existence. Highlights include a mid-engine twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 making more than 600 hp, carbon-fiber construction and body panels, active aerodynamics, and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic; a manual won’t be offered. Mark your calendars: A second chance to apply to own a GT comes in early 2018."

As far as no one buying them, there are plenty of $100k Raptors out there now, and most of them are sold (Shelby, etc). Will everyone want one, yes. Will everyone be able to afford one, no. But, I do think if enough people said they want one For will entertain the market.

As far as destroying the value of the fist Gen2's built, well that is kind of the risk a consumer takes when they buy the first year of anything. Once the public gets their hands on them and starts demanding improvements Ford will listen and cooperate with the next level of buyers.

Just my $.02.....

I never said Ford doesn't build niche vehicles. In fact you quoted my line about the Shelby and Raptor being niche vehicles. I specifically did not reference the GT since it was built around the ecoboost V6. To put a V8 in it would require a complete redesign. Cost is a factor on low production vehicles like the GT, so I just don't see it happening, at least not anytime soon.

Without a car like the GT balancing the cost of development, a street legal TTV8 is nothing more than a pipe dream.

As for people willing to pay $90-100k for a Raptor, I imagine that number is lower than you think. Especially when where talking about a factory stock truck, not a modified one. If Ford, thought they could sell enough modified Raptors for that cost, you eoyld have seen them do it with gen1s. That didn't hspoen then, and it won't happen noe. I'm not worried about the value of my new truck. There will always be something newer and better. I don't let that devalue my decision. That's why I've been married for 20yrs. Just because there is a new model, doesn't mean I made a bad choice.
