I’m paying 5k over on the 21 but MSRP on the custom order…who knows when that will be.

It’s your money, so you need to decide if it’s worth paying the salesman’s month long vacation to Tahiti or not.

I could tour the alps by rented motorcycle for 3 weeks, staying only at 3 star plus B&B or hotels. R/T would have to be economy or ‘plus’ seats. You probably get the idea. I can do a lot with 5k, and I’ll bet you can too.

tough choice if you’re rocking a peasant car currently - I was in ’16 while shopping for the Rap, so I get it.

But i do have close to 11k in equity in a truck that I’ve haven’t even owned for a year yet. Plus vet ad valorem tax exemption which is close to 6k savings as well.

Now don't let this guide your decision as the market changes daily but Vroom offered me 80k for my 800a with towing, convenience, torsen and bed liner. Everyone else I talked to said they can't come close to it and highest offer was 69k. Maybe vrooms algorithm is borked and they seem sketchy when I called but my dealer is offering me a 22 at MSRP. Hard to say no

Well damn!! You better jump on that!! They’re def higher than the others on my truck as well. Offered me close to private sale price last week on my loaded 21 ram limited. But as you said, the used car market is changing daily. According to YAA it’s up an astonishing 46% over last year!

I'd research Vroom! TFL had a nightmare transaction with Vroom!

If your paying an ADM on a 21 then trade on the 22... that sounds expensive. Also do you have to pay sales tax? If so does your state only tax you on the trade difference as some states do? This makes a difference on a choice to do a private sale vs trade.

Also in this crazy used truck market the trade difference & sales tax should be the focus. The pain of paying an ADM can be tempered if the dealer will give you what you paid or more for your trade.

Thanks for your response. So as I mentioned previously I’m tax exempt which is close to 6k in savings alone.

Those things don’t go away by waiting, right? Look, I love the Raptor. I believe it is hands down the best all around vehicle you can get your hands on for my purposes, at least. In addition, it is exceedingly off road capable, with very little to not like. That said, it’s a truck. It’s not a limited edition, one off vehicle and it’s a Ford, not a Lincoln or other luxury brand so, you deal with stealership staff who treat you like a peasant. Though to be fair, lately Ford stealerships have been somewhat upping their game in this regard.

If you -want- the sooner available truck $5,000.00 worth then get it! It’s your money and whatever truck you decide to get will be yours to do with as you please, whether it’s 26”’s with -20mm offset or mid travel with 20+ inches of suspension travel at both ends or somewhere in between.

But I would suggest that you objectively look at your situation and honestly assess if you can afford to give away 5 large. I get it. I had to cough up for concert tickets for my wife that were an astronomical amount of money all in. Not exactly 5k but let’s just say in the range of a full new set of KO2’s mounted and balanced and then some. This had to be done, no getting around it.
So I do understand if your calculus takes you to getting the truck that’s available sooner, but just be sure it’s a financial decision you can live with.

Either way, I wish you fortune in your Raptor search / purchase.

No, of course the tax exemption doesn’t go away, but the one variable is the equity in my truck as miles get added. At the end of the day there’s no absolute way to know what all the variables will look like when the 22 raptor arrives. On one hand I could be down 5K because of the ADM, and on the other hand my truck may depreciate more than anticipated offsetting that loss. And God forbid I get in an accident between now and then and the diminished value throws an entirely different wrench in the situation. Either way I can handle it financially but I hear you, no one wants to throw away 5K regardless of whether they can handle it or not. But there are multiple variables here and I’ll have to weigh out what makes sense when the 21 actually arrives. For all we know this chip hold could go long enough that I get a build date on the 22 and it doesn’t make sense to pull the trigger on the 21. Just weighing options and really appreciating all the input from everybody here.
