I know mosquito can be quite bad up there, is there any better or worse times that we can plan around? I know the wife and I will want to at least be able to walk around some and explore outside of the truck, and I don't want to deal with walls of mosquito if I can help it.

It's not like they are going to swarm you as soon as you get out of the truck. I'd say you'll be alright most of the time. A little deet spray and you're fine. The deer flies on the other hand......

The mosquitos can be quite bad at times just depending on weather and hatch. It's nothing that can really be planned around as they are out from the time the ground thaws to the time it re-freezes. Everyone wears bug spray when they are out and about here. It's really not a big issue. For the times when they are really, really bad a thermacell is all I use in addition to the bug spray. Some like the mesh hoods to keep them off your face and ears and head but I've never worn one or really felt like I needed to. No real problem with biting flys but you will see some white sox and they aren't much fun. Bug spray works for them as well.

Sub'ed and interested in a trip Spring/Summer '16. Been looking for an excuse to fork out the money to catch the Ferry out of Bellingham WA into Haines and do some driving.

Ferry info:

About $1200 ($3000ish if you want a cabin...wussy)

I too have wanted to do some of the ferry trips here. Looks like a ton of fun but it is definitely expensive. A guy could probably do a circle type route and take the ferry one way then drive back the other just to spice things up!

If I can time it right, would love to take the ferry up and then drive down through Canada and hit Banff...Not exactly a direct route, but worth the detour from all that I hear.

Oh man this sounds like it'd be a fun trip. We are planning a vacation to Europe next year though so I'm going to say that'll take priority. This would be a blast though.

Meh, Europe will always be there. You can do the Alaska Run with Raptors and friends now! Well, actually 2016 but it looses emphasis if I say it that way.
