Intercooler relocation, warranty issues?

Do you HAVE to use an aftermarket re-located IC w/ that bumper?

Are you trying to increase performance too? Or could you keep the stock one in place w/ the aftermarket bumper?

I recently went to dealer told me the following as far as warranty goes (what they told me sounds a lot like what I guessed myself to begin with)

They’ll do whatever they can to work w/ me, however in the case of an aftermarket part that require modification & relocation to an extent their hands are tied as they’d have to note/justify any labor/procedure to remove the part in order to the warranty procedure. In that case advised removing the stuff first. A larger FMIC, a bumper that requires moving ambient air sensor or getting rid of grill shutters, catch cans that require drilling & parts that install where they don’t belong in general will be difficult to deal with.

FWIW my main concern is not having warranty issue w/ a tune & cam phaser going bad for instance- & like I guessed, they told me if it’s on stock tune when it comes in then they’re not going to start digging into ecm history they aren’t going to get paid for it nor do they really care they’re just going through motions to get repair done.

but- in the event of a blown front diff like yours, they have to make note of aftermarket parts when they do the assessment to approve warranty work. If you went through the expense of de-modding you would’ve been fine I’m sure, but probably cheaper to just go the route you did.

The bottom line is if you want to be assured your warranty is intact, do NO mods regarding engine performance. If you are aware of the MM act, you know all the dealer has to do is "state" that a performance upgrade, IE Intercooler install, has been performed and has caused the factory programming to be compromised and caused the vehicle to have been operating out of its intended parameters. While we know this is not really factual, it is then unfortunately on you to provide preponderance of evidence to refute their claim. Sure you may be awarded damages, but at what cost? As posted above, FOMOCO has a team of attorneys ready to litigate at any time.

Now with that long winded paragraph, which only reiterated what was posted above, being said. If you can find a dealer which will work with you, and not fight you, this is a win win. One retort, which was mentioned above, is if your vehicle is put in their OASIS system it may be an uphill battle.

Mine is left stock, sans a few little items, due to the fact I DO NOT want to work on it if it has an issue. Yours is definitely beyond stock in the suspension department (it is a killer truck BTW).

No such option for guys wanting a winch. If someone could design a bolt on wich compatible bumper that keeps the stock intercooler they would sell a shit ton, but based I what I have seen it would either be A) bulky as hell and ugly or B) no possible.

The only way I can see it in my head is to put the winch infront of the intercooler and then add scoops to the sides of the winch to direct air flow to the intercooler.

im speaking form experience. are you? had a dealer (twice) try to decline warranty on a raptor and a gtr when i lived in vegas. all i did was provide logic and ask them to provide why they felt the pat failed due to any modifications. at that point both dealers, on separate occasions honored the warranty. maybe i was a long-time customer. maybe they were nice cars. maybe it was my mentioning of my knowledge of the law. but the fact still remains it worked.

my query would be why post something to discredit this based upon your feelings for how something works instead of facts, logic and proof? respectfully id ask that you be sensible when you quote or reply to someone when you are the one im quite certain isnt being "sensible" here. again, respectfully.

On every car forum the "magnuson moss warranty act" is mentioned. LOL!

Let me ask you a question .. if you own a company and someone bought your product and clearly modified it and then came back and said your product failed then would you deny warranty? Or would you spend your $$ trying to prove that the the customers mods did indeed caused your product to fail?

Be sensible man. To pursue the magnuson moss warranty act you have to have deep pockets and I bet Ford's legal team would bankrupt most customers going this route.

I apologize for offending your experience but what exactly is your advice to the OP?

Are you saying that if one modifies their truck and has a warranty issue and the warranty issue is denied, then one should just mention the magnuson moss warranty act? And hope that because they are driving an expensive truck and that they are a good customer then the dealer should rethink denying their warranty?

Let me rephrase my response:

1 - if you have a warranty issue on a vehicle that has not been modified whatsoever then there is a 99.9% chance that the warranty issue will not be denied.

2 - BUT if you have a warranty issue on a modified vehicle then you run the RISK that the manufacturer may deny your claim. If denied, then based on the law, you can threaten the manufacture with the magnuson moss warranty act and hope that because you are a good customer and also drive an expensive truck that you may get lucky and that they change their mind.

It seems you got lucky and so let's pray we are all lucky like you when we modify our Vehicles.

i didnt get lucky. i was smart enough to ask the right questions the right (polite) way. you sounds like you're just trying to argue a point and be negative so go on then and post whatever you feel. still wont change the fact that some of us have real application in the real world and some of us stay in the forums and tell everyone what is and isnt according to them.

The only thing factual about what you're saying is that it's a fact that was your experience. In no way does it guarantee it's applicability to anyone else. If you mod your truck, you're taking a bigger risk than if you do not. That, friend, is an actual fact, and personal experience won't change it.
