I am using it with Offline Topo, which is a Gaia app.
That way you can use it when you dont have service.
It booted up right away on that.

Is yours the 3g one though? Just found out they don't have a gps chip or some shit if they don't have 3g

Yes I think the non 3G iPads don't have the right GPS chip to work without 3G service.
