Trey you still doing these. I see the link on your site. Thinking about a handheld for the SDBR in May. And what's the difference between these Wouxun KG-UV6D we see on Amazon for $140 vs the Wouxon KG-UV6X? Not really wanting to spend the money for the ICOM 5021 yet. Maybe if I start going to more outings...thus the cheaper preference.

Thanks!

I thought the same thing but some other members showed me pros and cons and eventually if you want the icom you'll waste more money in the long run... I just got mine for $297 shipped to my door so it's always cheaper to do it the right way first :)

I heard from quite a few who seem to like their handheld just fine. Is the ICOM really necessary over the Wouxon? And I'm also thinking it won't be a waste anyways because if the time comes I want/need an ICOM (or similar) then I'll have a handheld for any travelling buddies when we're out exploring.

So is Trey still doing these? I know the PayPal links are still there.

You exactly right. Having the handheld won't ever go out of style.
PM Trey, he responds quickly.

The only issue for the handhelds is range. They don't transmit very far. So if you have a truck mounted 50 watts you can transmit over 10 miles I personally have gotten over 50. The hand helds have only 5 watts and only go a couple miles. This was an issue for a few at the snoball they could here trucks talking they could not talk to. Most regular Raptor expedition drivers use the Icom F5021. There must be a reason they are willing to spend the extra. If they were not better I can assure you they would get something that was....

very good input from ICE this was the exact information i needed to convince me of getting my F5021 for the Lost Coast run coming up in a few weeks... ive learned over the years with modified cars that if you want to do it right the first time get the right part first lol plus if you think about it there's plenty of people on here that have them and if vendors are doing group buys for this VHF radio there must be a reason, no one does group buys on bad stuff lol

It would work if you use it for CB...

You need one made for VHF
These two are the same except the type of mount needed. PL-259/NMO
I do not recommend a mag base......you could go lip mount or drill a holl.
COMET SBB25 R&L Electronics
COMET SBB25NMO R&L Electronics

damn, so i already have the wilson 1000 roof mounted (by previous owner) is there a way i can use the pre existing antenna wiring and just get a different antenna to mount onto the wilson mount?
