I seriously was getting around 10.5 to 11 mpg doing my everyday driving routine, and with the CAI and 5Star Tune I've been getting 12 to 12.5 mpg.
It might not be a lot but it adds up, an extra 25 to 30 miles per tank still goes a long way. Mind you I'm NOT driving like a Grandma so I could get better. I do a lot of stop light to stop light and idling driving.

Is the increase more of the tuner or the CAI? I have been looking at just getting a CAI. I am hesitant of using a tuner on my Raptor until the warranty is close to be being over.

Like SilverBolt said you need both to see any kind of increase. I'll just return it to stock when I bring it in for service.

You shouldn't have to return it to stock if you have a tune and cai.

When I first bought my G8 GT I added a cai, tune and exhaust within the first couple of days of ownership. When I prepared to sell it, I returned everything to stock other than the tune. I actually started to get 2mpg better gas mileage after going back to the stock intake and exhaust (which was axleback only). When I removed the tune and put the stock tune back in the day I sold it, I picked up another 1mpg on the way to the dealership (25 miles trip). I had this car for its entire 43k mile life and monitored gas mileage on a regular basis.

MPG with tune/cai/exhaust 17.9 avg city/hwy
MPG with stock intake and exhaust 20.1 avg city/hwy (did this for about 3 months)

Bottom line is, the claims that tunes and cai's improve gas mileage has yet to be proven in MY EYES. I personally think it's a sales ploy. Doesn't mean I won't be doing a tune when the Raptor comes in, because the improvements found in a tune makes a vehicle MUCH more enjoyable. But a CAI is not worth it on this truck, IMO.

I was wondering if anyone knew what parts I can put in the raptor to help out with fuel economy. I kinda want it to be at 20 mpg or better. If i can't get it that close, oh well. Oh, price really isn't an issue, but i would like to keep it under 2 grand.

thanks again

Free method that might actually work:
  • Always drive on flat, level ground or downhill
  • Perform the above item with a tailwind
  • Never let the engine go above 2200RPM under acceleration
  • Never exceed a road speed of 45mph

Costly method that might actually work given enough money and alcohol
  • Swap the 6.2L for a 3.5L Ecoboost
  • Get Ford to build a 4.5L diesel

Realistic method within your budget:
  • ..............

FWIW, after 10,000 miles, I'm averaging 13.8mpg on 87 Octane in a bone stock SCrew. The majority of my mileage is admittedly highway but, 25-30% of my daily driving is typical, surface street driving. I'm not willing to mess with the tune or a CAI just yet because, I want the clunk issue resolved before I do anything to the truck.

While we're on this...just curious, is everyone seeing mpg increase with odometer mileage as the thing loosens up a bit?

From my own experience:
Tire pressures are important.
Highway speed is important.

Have seen an MPG increase with a tune on my old truck, but that was done specifically for my truck using EFILive...not just a new one-size-fits-all calibration. The latter can work as well though.

Every engine is different...
I gained close to 5mpg with open filter, tune and exhaust on my 7.3L Powerstroke. On my 07 G35 no matter what intake you put on the dual intakes it would loose 2-5hp. Judging by how much power you get getting a full exhaust I could only imagine the mpg would go up. This is a big engine that needs to breathe.

I just wanted to get between 15 and 20 so that way if i go on a long offroading trip, i won't have to cut it short due to me having to stop for gas all the time. if there isn't any extra parts, i don't care. was just wondering.
oh, i also don't drive grandma-like. if the opportunity presents itself, i floor it no matter what unless there is a cop around. hehe
