Read the post above. I called Sparks and had them price it out for me. Man...I wasn’t trying to create an argument with people just stating what people had told me.

Actually, I did check my facts and according to Sparks Toyota Parts that new crate long block is actually

$31,568.80 not including tax!!!!!! Don’t believe it, then call Jimmie with Sparks!

It sounds like Jimmie is making a fortune off of people... Does that include installation and a new transmission/drive train??

Not arguing just showing what I found, if that is what he is charging then just buy the whole truck. 2019 tundra sr5 with 5.7 cost $34,490 before tax etc.

Toyota engines are pricey though. Last year, when I had engine problems on my 2012 Highlander, the dealer sourced a used engine for $9k. New engine was around $15k. An independent shop diagnosed and also recommended engine replacement. I decided to have the dealer tear apart the engine and replace a broken valve spring. Ended up costing $5k for parts and labor—but still saved a ton of money compared to an engine replacement.

I understand what a new truck costs, but if you bought all the parts necessary to build your own raptor it would cost 2 or 3 times as much or more.

You can't beat a PD blower on top of a big V8 for grunt. Everything will be a step down from that.

Those Toyotas are so ******* ugly.

people dont like to hear the truth. especially here when a toyota motor may cost more than a ford. 3.5 is way more run of the mill than the 3UZ. I believe you because you said entire crate motor. Thats the entire thing as a turn key. I still called Sparks and other dealers because i was dealing with the magnuson pinging issue and worried about detonating the entire motor. The rods are frail especially from pinging that the S/C's create from aggressive timing and high IAT's. TRD's tune was much much more conservative but they still pulled it as it was a liability. DAP never came out with one for the flex fuel which i was disappointed.

One things for sure, i miss the sound and the power and reliability of it though. The raptor even with a tune feels like a complete slouch.

You miss the sound of pinging and the reliability of fragile rods? Sounds more like a time bomb to me.

As for power, a tuned Gen 2 makes 530+ and there's no way a tuned Gen 2 is slower than a 550 horsepower Tundra with that EXTREMELY outdated 6 speed transmission. The Gen 2 is deceptively smooth and quiet. You just don't realize how much faster it is than your old clunker time bomb.

By the way, a Gen 1 Raptor with a Whipple makes as much power at the rear wheels as a your old clunker time bomb made at the crank. And that's with big boy wheels and tires. Not those dinky little passenger car tires Toyota puts on their trucks. And it also won't blow up.

Did a Toyota guy just actually refer to the Raptor as run of the mill?!?

Hey, serious question, do you also miss the fake hood scoop??? I hear the new ones also have a fake hood scoop on their fake hood scoop!??

Toyota!

Definitely were some BIG gaps in some of the gears on the Tundras 6 speed tranny, but that old SC 5.7 sure did run hard and yes, I raced a lot of trucks. The tundra with a SC and 4.88’s were pretty quick. This Raptor though is an amazing truck and are light years ahead of the Tundra in comfort and tech.
