and don't forget that the bump stop serves a specific purpose... cushioning the axel from causing damage to the frame on impacts. If you need more cushion (i.e. pushing the suspnsion hard at high speed...) then get better bump stops...

Good point!

Good point!

and yes, the frame is weaker there at the bump stop than at the rest of the truck... strengthen it or dont push it till we get an answer from Ford. :birgits_tiredcoffee

Yes Ford should at least look at this issue to ensure that the frame meets their intended strength level for the advertised performance.

If Ford wants it to bend on impact, then ok... we need to strengthen it.... if Ford does not think the frame should bend... then it should be warranted.

Call SVT and speak to a real engineer to get his take on the limits of the materiel used in the Raptor frame. This will be the only solution to this whole thread marathon going on. :005:

That's just it, they have. In all the marketing/media that Ford put out on it, nowhere does it show it hitting a decent size kicker at a great enough speed to cause damage. All pics or vids are only of high speed on relatively tame terrain (aside from some moderate whoop sections or "bumps" and whatnot) and jumps that, well, have been at way lower heights and lower speeds than some have done on their own.

This is a design in the frame no matter the model or package of F150 and I'm sure that impact guidelines played a role. Could it be better? Yes. (the 04-08's did not have the hole there and used a bumpstop that bolted in from the bottom) It would've cost Ford a ton of time and money to modify a new crumple zone into an already designed frame. That's not cheaping out, it's just an area that they obviously did not encounter any issues with during testing........testing that ultimately determined it's capabilities......wich they then marketed and put into media. So should it bend in a severe enough impact, yes.....but that does not mean it should be warrantied due to people over doing it.

By the way, I was also a 19K:waytogo:

OH GOOD GOD, are you kidding me? the location of the bump-stop is ridiculous on this truck. to me it's more of a safety concern over anything else. I can't believe anyone would put anything that is "designed" to take an impact of any means in the middle of a crumple zone. that's just retarded in my opinion. and screw the warranty it's a lawsuit waiting to happen. I can just imagine this nice family riding down the road with their camper on the hitch and then they hit a bump in the road which bends the frame and then on their way back through colorado the frame then twist because it's been damaged already and it has a catastrophic failure. Family goes off the cliff and die's. Now THAT is not a driver problem that's a ford new about a problem and didn't fix it or let anyone know problem. Result = Millions paid out to grieving family, and a recall.

I've already got scratches on my skid plate from some very moderate offroading. Does this mean I should replace it in case I bend my frame and the dealer takes a look under the truck?

Interesting, that is a scary but yet possible scenario.

exactly, they want to say "Abusive" driving, and yet, the exact same damage can occur in normal road driving with pot holes and such that are considered "Road Hazards" which ARE covered under the warranty.
