40mm will be fine. I used 40mm that I found. I would also suggest just getting extra 8mm nuts and grinding down two sides where they will fit between the holes in the bracket. I did this rather than using the 6mm nuts. It worked just as easy. Just make sure they are lined up with the bracket prior to install. Hardest part of the install was putting the lights on with the limited room to start the nuts. I didn't want to cut the plastic back to far.
Hope this helps you.

Thanks! I was thinking of modifying the 8mm nuts. Are the 8mm any thicker than the 6mm? Does it matter?

This all might seem like a big work-around to some people, but anything sounds better than having to mess with the hood alignment (and you can do this with one person).

8mm will work fine ground down on two opposite sides. I left 20mm of stud exposed for bracket nut and washer. Just make sure you do one side at a time. Start with the front bolt. Get the stud in and screw down the modified 8mm nut as tight as you can get it with the edges you ground off lined up with the edges of the hood bracket.

8mm x 1.25 x 30mm studs

I think I finally found the best solution for the 8mm x 1.25 x 30mm studs. These are exactly the correct dimensions AND they are hex-head set screws, so they can be threaded using a hex wrench.

Search Amazon for: Alloy Steel Set Screw, Hex Socket Drive, Knurled Cup Point, M8-1.25, 30mm Length (Pack of 25)

You still have to have a nut to hold the hood hinge down before installing the light mounts. Go back and read the instructions again. Your obviously not understanding it correctly. You can screw in the threaded stud with your fingers. They go in easy.

Thanks for the message, but I do understand the instructions completely. I did not know how easily the bolts would screw in - sometimes you have to use pliers or a wrench, which would screw up the threads. I bought all of the parts earlier today, including nuts for the top of the stud. I have 8mm nuts that I will grind to 6mm on two parallel sides, plus normal 8mm nuts that will finish off the installation of the brackets.

The set screws that comes with the CravenSpeed Stubby antenna would NOT have screwed in if they did not come with hex-heads.

I am still a novice at this, so ALL help is appreciated. Thanks!

No problem man, I was just making sure you got it. Those Alens in the studs may actually help you getting the initial 8mm nuts you ground down tight. Just remember. One at a time, getting it tight. Easy with the hood during install so it doesn't move.

Thanks Smokinjo! I don't want the hood to move a hair!! So glad that FRF has members who share their ingenious methods. This was going to be a bear to install using the standard method.

I will post pics and an update after I get the lights installed.

I like the Idea of the hex head, I bet it makes things just a little bit easier and looks more high tech.
