As silly as it is, this is one of the things I was most looking forward to when I ordered my Raptor. I run a lot - mostly outside on trails. I've encountered many a horror story of runners losing their keys on a run. It's pretty tough to go backtrack 12 miles of trail to find a little key. I always lock my keys in and use the door pad to get back in. It's great! Also it means when my wife goes with me, but not as long or far, she can go unlock the truck and hang out in the AC while she waits.

I did not think the keypad was a useful feature until I got use to having it. Now I would be hard pressed not to have it on a truck. It is so nice to grab stuff out of the truck when my keys are inside. Enter the code and get my gear, no keys needed. I wish Ford would make it lock and unlock the tailgate. That would be the ****. I programed the number in my phone just in case I forget.

On my last truck I had a key behind the lic plate. Unscrewed one screw put it through the key and reattached it. I sold the truck and I bet it's still there.

Ford's keypad is great. I had a Denali HD and onstar had a satellite issue and could not unlock the truck for a couple of hours. Other than that onstar has always worked well too but keypad is great I always leave keys in trucks

Anybody remember the old plastic key that ford used?

You can also just hit the door lock button on the inside of the door and when you close your door the doors will stay locked and everything is activated. There are lots of great places to hide a spare key inside the truck. While doing various mod's you discover lots of good places that are easy to get into by popping a panel off using no tools where you can hide a key, you just get into the truck using the key code number on the door.

Only problem is an extra key that will crank the truck is over $200.00!

To the OP, use one of the methods listed above but do not get one of those magnetic hide-a-key things.... One trip offroad and it's a goner.

doesnt make sense....... its usually the other way around....the key is pinned the same. the chip has to be rogrammed by ford so the RFID in the chip matches the computer in the vehicle so it can start. the lock cylinder in the door requires no chip
