I agree with nosbusa, takes a chipped key to start, no chip for door. I had locksmith make an unchipped key and it opens the door. A chipped key will do it all.

Best thing to do (but I did not think of it then) is have the dealer throw in a 3rd key when you make the deal to buy the truck.

I think he is talking about a key that does not have the remote attached to it.

still doesnt seem right. the truck has to be at ford so they can take their diagnostic tool to tell the onboard computer to accept the new RFID. unless you have a ford diagnostic tool this cant be done. all dealerships (not just ford) charge $60-$100 for a new key, then you have to pay them $70-$120 to do the 5 minute programming.

Yes, the key has a chip which will start the truck but there is no remote button for unlocking the door. You just have to use the key in the door lock to open it.

Can't say how it's done but they said it takes 15-30 min to make it. You do have to have the truck sitting there so I'm guessing they must plug something into the computer.

My wife bought a used 2010 explorer and it only had one key. The salesman came out with another new key and programmedf it while I watched. Nothing plugged in. He just keyed the ignition a set number of times and pushed the remote button and it worked....Should have paid more attention I guess.

The other day I was under my truck and noticed writing on the frame. You could take a paint pen and write your door code on the inside of the frame and put OK or INSP. or something. No one would know it's your door code. They would just think it was a quality control mark.
