Help on SPST relay to connect light bar to high beams

FWIW, I've had mine wired up for a couple weeks. Pulled a lead from my driver's side headlight. The setup works great with the flyback diode, i.e. any additional delay on their turn off is going to be imperceptible to most.

Spent some extra $$$ and bought the Motorcraft WPT1321 and WPT1279 pigtails I saw recommended on FRF so I didn't have to cut into the headlamp wires. Those worked excellent except I had to trim one plastic orientation tab on one of the pigtails, once trimmed, fit was perfect and they came with all needed waterproof heat shrink. I pulled my lead from the driver's side headlight instead of the passenger side, made for trivial wiring routing to where I placed my relay box. R&R of the headlight was straightforward after watching a vid on what tabs need to be popped off.

Hey there. I could not find the pigtails you chatted about. Do you have any more info? I want to put a pigtail between my harness and my light, and then wire that to a relay for my light bar.

Has anybody been running relays without the flyback diodes? I've got a handful of JD1914 relays that I want to use, but they don't have internal diodes. How important are the diodes?

OK, so it seems the electronic big brains hang out in here so...

I am planning on adding a 6 relay panel which enables switching of 5 lights independently via upfitters and all 5 at once via high beams when upfitter 6 is on. It will also increase capacity on upfitters.

Can someone please:

1. Critique my design.
2. Let me know if I will need a capacitor on the high beam wire tap to avoid flicker.
3. Think of any issues I haven't!

This has been sitting on my workbench 75% complete for months waiting for my bumper to come and lights to be installed. I just finished up and it is all functioning as expected.

Front lights can be operated independently via switches, or if up fitter 6 is on,high beam operates all auxiliary lights (only those which selectively have a diode installed), regardless of the individual switch position.

Breaker also services 4awg running to fuse box under rear seats to power VHF radio and sub amp and I have full time power running off one of the fuses in this box to dash mount USBs added under my Builtright mount. There is one more unused fuse position in the box. I will probably use it for an under hood light when I get around to it.

I got a little sloppy with the wiring to the Deutch connectors but 10awg is not easy to work with in close quarters and I am honestly fed up with ******** with this thing and wanted it in!

PSA: Cutting 1/8" alu plate with a jigsaw and bending it with a series of contraptions including jacks, a piece of crane steel and a nudge bar to make a bracket is not an enjoyable exercise.

I am wanting to do something similar except I want to run one set of SAE fogs with the low beams and ALSO be able to switch them on/off with an outfitter switch. Is this possible and, if so, would the process be the same as the aforementioned high beam set-up?

Exactly the same except you would trigger the relay with the low instead of the high.

Shouldn't that 87a, (N.C.) actually be a N.O. contact 87?

Yes, I think you are right. I also have the diodes facing the wrong way. Visio rookie.

Also you may want to switch your wires on 85 and 86 terminals. 85 is supposed to be for chassis ground.

Your schematic is really nice. If it's possible it would be great if you could do the corrections and re-post the updated one.
