I have had a couple of these units on my tahoe and 2 of my stores delivery vehicles for the last 3 years. I have not noticed a difference between the trucks that have them and the ones that do not. The brand i am using is called Alpha Therm. IMO they do not help.

Old school solution, extend the washer hose, and wrap the radiator hose a few times with it. I just shook my head the first time I heard it, then I tried it. As stupid as it sounds, it actually worked just well enough to help and no cracks.

The gm ones were causing vehicles to catch fire. That is my only input for this thread as it doesn't get cold enough for me to have to worry about this here

Why not just use wiper fluid with alcohol in it to melt the ice as opposed to shattering your windshield?

Lol defrost and alchohal based fluid help but sometimes you'll come out to a half inch of ice on your windshield.
Alpha therm makes a universal one. I remember years ago when I worked at napa we sold a similar product and a lot of the truck drivers would buy them. Idk my only concern with it it burning the damn truck down.
