I'm so close to ordering the entire setup blacked out as well. Lightning setup though. Can't wait to see it. Extremely nervous about the SES light flashing on when I get it done. I don't want issues but I definitely want to get this done.

yeah i am going lightning style also.

as far as the CEL/codes trust me i have researched the $hit out of it and bothered many members and vendors. poor chris kelley has heard me talking about this issue for days lol. supposedly most raptors wont throw a code at all. a few memebers had a full sw setup with no tune for a little while and never threw a code. now if u get tuned which u should, u wont have to worry about CEL. also if u need to return to stock to get inspected and u throw a code, mike from 5 star said to just clear your codes with the tuner and then get inspected. u should have time before it throws another code. then go back to your custom tune.

my only question now is will the coating help or hurt throwing a code on the upstream(front0 o2's when u return to stock. the front ones look for temp and how fast they heat up. i dont know if they get this temp from the metal piping or the from air flowing threw. the coating would help prevent the pipe from heating up fast enough or hot enough but would help heating up the air flow as it holds more heat in. uncoated would heat up the pipe more and i guess the air flow would be a lower temp due to heat escaping into the pipe....

I did not coat the SW headers and wish I did. Have been doing some research on this and the good news is that you can coat used headers or new ones. Of course you do have to take them out and put them back in...LOL, which is not so great but what the hell.

The coating should be done both inside and outside the header. From what I understand is that this will improve the insulation effect and also protect the header material from damage.

This is on my list of things to get done soon. Increased performance is a secondary thing, what I really want to do is lower the temps around the starter motor. Coating the headers is the first step and the second will be some additional insulation to isolate the starter from the headers.

Running wide open offroad can get your headers cherry red hot, and at some point, the solder melts out of the terminal on the header side of the solenoid on the starter. Then you cant start your truck, LOL. True story.

Coat Em!

The main benefit of a thermal coating is reducing under-hood temperature. Our headers are coated inside and out which help keep heat away from electronics and yes, the starters too! The Raptor 6.2 and actually most of the current engines in the Ford lineup are very wide which makes the engine compartments very tight and limited on space, so heat is a huge problem when trying to make power. Adding the thermal coating helps control the amount of heat inside the compartment and it also helps with exhaust scavenging and keeping the gases cooler and allowing them to escape the exhaust port and maintain velocity.

Mufflers, Headers, Tips, Pipes: Anything we make, you can now order in Thermal Coat Black!

Now Available: Black Out Thermal Coating

I have Kooks Headers. They are uncoated. F*** they get hot. melted some of the plastic in the fender well.

When doing Long Tubes I highly Recomend getting some spark plug wire boots that are rated @ 1200deg cels.

If I had the extra coin I would of coated the headers, but did not.

The Headers get so hot it turns the pipes gold, witch IMO looks F*****g awesome! I love my Kooks

Coated is the only way to go!!

1) The Heat dissipation is huge!!! You can touch your headers after 20 minutes that have been coated verus 2 hours without coating.

2) They will look great forever.

I got my Kooks LTs coated, it was a bonus so there was no cost. It is fantastic. I have a friend that has a TrailBlazer SS and his Kooks were uncoated and he took them off and got them coated after several melting incidents. It's worth the extra money in the long run.
