I'm still working on getting lots of things together. Now im confused on the D rings... what type and were do I get the D rings that are needed for this trip? I was thinking it was the rings that screw into itself that you put on the tow strap but now I'm seeing the little D rings mounted (as if you put a bungie to or hold out points).

There are some Drings that people are using to mount their spare in the bed that are ordered from Dodge.

The require D rings or shackles depending on how you refer to them are the ones that you hook to a tow strap and screw into themselves.

I believe the ones required are the ones that you put on a tow strap. The little ones aren't required people (we are using them I think) just find them handy to tie down things in the bed of the truck.
