I sell the baofengs programmed and I sell icom f5021 mobile mounted units. Each has their pluses. I'd take a mounted unit all day though.

Try to stay away from handhelds if possible.. There transmit is very poor and if you want to talk to someone more than a mile away on a trail, your going to be out of luck. Save your money get the right radio the first time and you don't have to buy it twice. A handheld does have an advantage over no radio but not by much... Look at a radios out put wattage to determine if it will have the range you want. Mounted in vehicle usually start around 25 watts and some as high as 100 watts... There is nothing worse than thinking you can communicate and getting lost and finding out you cant..
