the problem is where to put it. for convienence you would have it under the drivers dash. but a thief would find it pretty quick. in the engine bay, and you will be opening your hood every time you leave your vehicle

Inside the center console. Inside a Lockerdown safe.

so then the alarm makes you have another button pad on your key chain?

You can have it work with your OEM key. The SmartStart works with your phone.

so then the alarm makes you have another button pad on your key chain?
with the right parts, it allows use of your oem key. the remote gives you the ability to control aux functions, extended range, and audio and visual confirmation. but it is not necessary.

At the shop now. Yup, just the GPS module is possible. They'll hook up the door locks too. I didn't want or care for the remote start via cellphone, not any other alarm features. I may change my mind later, but right now I just want to be able to find my car and get text messages when the car is moved. Pretty happy with this option.
