i have seen a stack of 5 gy next to bfg and it was prolly almost a foot difference in height...there is no doubt the gy is way skinner than the bfg. thats prolly where that 10 lb difference is coming from...its a smaller tire. all make and models of the same size tire are not the same. Take the 315/70r17 bfg ko2 load c speed rating s oem for wrangler ive heard but not verified is skinner than the same tire speed t oem on raptors. not all tires are created the same even from the same manufacturer

I have no dog in this hunt other than shopping myself. However, I’m not sure I’d compare a “stack” of un inflated, un installed tires.

We ALL know the discrepancies between manufacturers and the same tire “size“ vs actual measurements.

Yeah this is the first thing that crossed my mind when reading that as well. Wouldn’t be surprised if the tread is a half inch narrower but if they weren’t mounted that’s a crapshoot.

Mounted or not the gy is skinner by a lot and mounting it aint gonna make it wider. Look at pic on first page and gy looks practically flush with wheel where bfg poke out quite a bit. i saw a bronco with gy mt and looked pretty skinny (unless bronco has wider rims) compared to bfg on raptors.

I have an oem 2010 spare with OG bfg ko and that is a lot skinner than same size ko2

Here are a pair of BFG LT315/70r17. 2020 ko2 load C speed S vs a 2014 ko load D. at least 1/4" if not 1/2"+ tread width. overall width is also wider too. dont have a good way to measureko2 vs ko.jpg

That the tire size for the same spec doesnt mean squat. GY MT are skinny pizza cutter tires. Thats where the 10 lbs difference comes into play

I still cannot believe the weight difference.
Of course would love lighter tires, but...
such a difference it scares me.
AND... lately seeing these GYs the cheapest selection at quite a few places.
Had to scrimp somewhere to get so light and so inexpensive.

If it seems too good to be true...

LT315/70R17:
BFG KO2 CS 62# 10.5-12.5" 15/32
BFG KO2 CT 62# 10.5-12.5" 15/32 maybe a hair narrower and shorter than BFG KO2 CS.
GY MT CS 52# 9.00-11.0" 15/32
BFG KM3 EQ 74# 10.25-13.25" 18/32

LT35x12.50R17:
GY Boulder EQ 69# 10.5-12.25" 20/32
BFG KO2 ER 65# 10.0-12.0" 14/32
BFG KM3 EQ 73# 9.75-12.75" 18/32

I would use GY MT if you mainly daily on street and highway.
