its meant to be a long range off road racer, you know, like a baja race. so that 1 truck length after 100, then add on another 100 and its 2 truck lengths... and so on and so on.... long distance race, us men with a 6.2L will be at the finish line drinking beers waiting on you boys with the 5.4L to finally get there. :Moon:

Meh.....we're talking about a 6k lb. truck made for off-roading. Regardless if it has a 6.2 or 5.4, it's only going to go so fast. Talking about how many truck lengths ahead isn't gonna say much unless we know how much distance has been traveled at that exact moment and what the speed is.....variables. 5.4 does just fine to a certain point, then a 6.2 will show it's strength. Long distance races like the Baja 1000 aren't much of an answer either due to the fact that there's an infinite amount of variables involved.....a 5.4 won in the Dakar rally. So a member posted a vid of a 5.4 running and beating 6.2's at the sand drags and now there's a massive 5.4 is better movement.....word of the day, VARIABLES. This thread is remeniscent of the start of the Raptor forums community and quite bush league. But I can see where some of you are having fun with it:)

The first known 5.4 Raptor didn't hit the lot till September ish 2009, (they were also held back a few months from the July initial production launch). The first known 6.2 Raptor hit the owners hand April 14th 2010. That's nowhere near a "year" wait but closer to half a year. My personal one did take longer (June 4th 2010), but still not a year. At that point, I had been holding out for the project Raptor for over three years, what was a few more months for the EXACT one I wanted?? The only thing that was a "year" was the 5.4 Raptor production.

The 6.2 was not a 3000 dollar upgrade for myself, but a 2500 dollar one. Like MANY others, I got my options at invoice. For 2500 dollars, you get 91-99 more HP, and 69 lbft torque (not to mention a stronger/updated 6r80e). You can not duplicate that by spending even 3000 dollars in upgrades on the 5.4. Not to mention, doing so while still 100% under warranty. Notice I didn't use e85 values for the 5.4. E85 isn't available to everyone. I would have to drive 4 hours to find the first E85 pump. Premium 91+ octane Unleaded is available to 99% of the US population.

4 mpg better is a stretch. I have yet to see a 5.4 Raptor continuously get 20-21mpg. I say 20-21mpg because I average 16-17mpg driving up and down the hwy (and roads in Colorado are not exactly flat either). So its more like 0-1.8 mpg difference the 5.4 will favor over the 6.2.

The 6.2 does add some weight. But then again SVT spent the majority of the time dialing in the front suspension for the 6.2 engine. Are you going to notice the weight when off roading? Probably not considering the extra effort that was involved. Will the weight be noticed in a drag race? Probably, but enough to offset the hp and torque that was gained? No.

Soco brings up a good point with variables. For me the 5.4 wasn't an option. At 6700ft, thats a 25-ish% power loss. The 5.4 would make around 232hp. That gives the 5.4 Raptor a LOWER horse power to weight ratio than a PRIUS when taking in account of the losses that will also affect the hybrid drive unit. I'm sorry 5.4 owners, but being beat in a 0-60 pavement race by some hippie in a hemp seat covered Prius loaded with 5 dogs and three bicycles isn't an option.

And we still have potential, let me know when the 5.4 can; hit 500 hp with bolt on's, hit 370 cfm intake flow, be bored and stroked to over 400+ cubes, be Fords "777" that pushes a 2800 car to the 8's N/A.... When it comes down to it, the 5.4 can't, and never will. For some people that means nothing, for me it means: its about damn time Ford built an engine (including the coyote) that didn't have to be blown to keep up with the LSx.

I still don't miss the 5.4 vs 6.2 threads... Arguing 5.4 vs 6.2 is right up there with politics and religion. I'm not going to change your mind and you're not going to change mine. I'm kinda disappointed to see not one but two threads created about it now. This is the typical shit that one would find on the Z, not what I expected from FRF.
