There I said it. Rain just hit here. Roads are slick. But with decent potential for fun. I am reminded of how much less awesome it is to be sliding around a 400hp truck with about zero weight over the driven wheels.

The bride‘s car is a V8 Grand Cherokee, similar power to weight. Super confidence inspiring to rally around.

Still love the Gen I. But may add a III to the stable as a daily driver.

Once a Gen 1 owner, always a Gen 1 owner, I suspect one day you will be back in one. Maybe not anytime soon but one day the regret will kick in. Could be 20 years from now at a car show when you see one and say to yourself “man I should have kept mine”. With all that said, I would probably trade mine for a Gen 3 tomorrow if ADMs weren’t out of control and I felt like taking on a car payment during Brandon‘s build inflation back better plan.

First rain, I always switch to 4x4

Why did you not just switch to 4x4, you can engage the 4x4 hi up 50+ mph.
I do recommend doing that with no load on the engine, this will ensure a smooth transfer case lock.
Best way is to come to a complete stop but not absolutely necessary.

And if your driving with 40 psi. or higher in the rear, the tires get really slick, especially if the are old.
I run 38 psi. in the fronts and 34 to 35 in the rears.

There are two ways you can change the tire psi. limiter.
Either get a Tune or use Forscan

gen i isn’t going anywhere. it’s just getting nasty enough for serious off-road work. by “add to the stable”, i mean ADD.

i understand how a t-case works and the magic of correct tire pressure. but even in the land of close and amazing trails, i’m on the street 90% of the time.

awd is just a very different driving experience. not better or worse. but very different. just ruminating on that as the pavement got wet today. and snow season is looming….

I drive 100% street for 11 years.
When you switch to 4x4 hi it's the same or better than awd.
My wife and daughter drive awd, I don't feel the difference you're talking about.

I was just going add, changing the stance from factory rake to level made a big difference on how the rear handles.
Plus I added a rear sway bar, that really planted the truck
and putting the front shocks on mid perch further stabilized any roll.
I can weave in and out of traffic about same as with my wife's Audi Q5.

Good tires is key, once the bfg's are half gone they are kind of worthless, especially in the snow.
Or are too old, they turn into plastic basically and you can do donuts like a big wheel in the rain.

@MTF - nice setup

i actually lowered the rear of the truck to be level, which was huge handling help. I bet your sway bar and traction bar are helping a lot as well. the soft suspension can really unload the inside rear.

next stop for me is defiantly some +1 deavers.

Yup stock rear springs suck a s s.
Worn out rear shocks is another thing to consider.

I had to step out for a few hours so I'm a little late to fully respond.

First, traction bars do nothing to aid in handling, they only stop wheel hop.
Second, you don't want +1s for the Deavers, +2 is factory ride height and well keep the Fox valving in the shock were it's designed for.
You need to put the front shocks at mid-perch, this is where Fox designed the optimum valving position of the front shocks.
They are at bottom perch because D.O.T. requires a certain height for the front bumper, this forced Ford to put them at bottom perch from the factory.
Plus when you set the front shocks to mid-perch, this will preload the front springs the raise the nose to within a 1/2 to 3/4 inch of level, with either the stock or Deavers +2 rear springs.
There is a bigger benefit to doing mid-perch and having the springs set to the compression it was originally design for.
Besides helping with body roll, it will aid in nose diving when hitting the brakes, especially when coming to a turn and hitting the brakes.
I'm sure you know what I'm talking about, when the truck feels and does at high enough speed, like it wants to push out in a turn.

Wait? since when did you guys stop excommunicating upgraders? I thought once Jen Juan owners bought a ‘17+ it was a full on shunning afterwards?

Since.....I knew I wanted to upgrade at some point, then it became acceptable(naturally)..hahaha
