Where do you look at to see the snell

Here you go Wilson;

Also on the inside, you will also find a more detailed Snell label. This is Snell M2005, they updated via Snell 2010. My helmet is a number of years old, so if your buying new, get 2010.

I got a helmet in 2011 a snowmobile one or I should say had them throw it in with my 4 wheeler. I've only had it on once so it's still new.

Sled helmets are usually DOT approved, sometimes they carry the Snell "M" rating.

There's either a sticker on the outside(usually bottom-center) or inside under the liner.

Snell "SA" is just a higher level rating for motorsports events that some places require for vehicles.

As far as I am aware, any motorsports event that requires a Snell rating will NOT allow the use of the Snell M and will allow Snell SA only. I know one of the differences between the two ratings is the fire resistance.

If all they require is DOT approved helmets then you do not really need to worry about snell rating if you already have one that says DOT approved. If buying new I would buy the best you can afford. Remember this is a safety device and a few extra bucks is worth it when its goal is to save my life.

Also DOT approval is a bit of a Joke as it is only required to meet DOT specs does not actually have to pass tests to put the sticker on it. DOT does do random tests where they will purchase a commercial helmet and test it, if it fails it has to have DOT approved removed from it. Which is why I would only buy a SNELL rated helmet.

I also plan to buy another Fire Retardant jacket, and if you are going to wear jeans I suggest a new pair (not a worn out pair) but best is at least pants that are listed as Fire Retardant.

Anyone got a good link for helmets? Any FRF vendors selling helmets?

Go to ebay and find the best price on a Snell SA2010 rated full face helmet. They can be had for under $200.

As one who has bought helmets online, the way that they fit can vary greatly. Some have more of a round shape, some have more of an oval shape. Remember, this can be something that you will be wearing for a while, so comfort is important. The only way to judge comfort is to wear it for a while. Make sure the place you order from has a good return policy - don't let the hassle of a return make you settle for a helmet that doesn't fit right.
